An Open Letter To My Best Friends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

These last couple of weeks I’ve had time to think about many different aspects of my life. I have realized how important my friends are to me and how much I appreciate them. Being abroad has made me miss so many things about home, but I miss my friends a lot. I am lucky that my best friend of eight years is here in Salamanca with me, but you just can’t help missing those friends from back home.

About two weeks ago, I got super homesick. It was something very strange because I didn’t get homesick when I initially got to Spain; it was a feeling that came out of the blue. I have to admit, it was a struggle getting through that week. Thankfully, my friends were there to encourage me and tell me that everything was okay.

As Thanksgiving is approaching, I just want to let my friends know how thankful I am to have them in my life. It is because of them that I could feel better and realize that it’s okay to miss things from home; it’s a natural feeling. To my friends back home, I am thankful for all the fun times that we’ve had, the deep conversations, the life advice, and of course for helping me become a better person. Thank you for caring about how I’m doing and encouraging me to have fun and enjoy my time abroad. I am truly lucky to have them as my friends, and I can’t wait to go back home and hang out with them!

To my best friend that is abroad with me, thank you for eight years of friendship. I am honestly amazed at the fact that we went to high school together, we’re at Wake together, and we’re also in Salamanca living life. It’s great having someone that pretty much knows everything about me because I can always count on her to listen to me! No matter where life takes us always know that I’ll be here for her as I know that she’ll always be there for me. No matter the things that we go through, we use those different experiences as life lessons and become better people from them!

Thank you friends for being a part of my life and for being by my side through the good and the bad times. I love you guys!
