My October Edit: A Guide to 2026 Fall Fashion

Now that the weather has hit the 60s in Winston-Salem, it’s time to start thinking about your fall wardrobe. October is upon us, and fall is arguably the best season to see everyone’s style. The air is crisp enough for layers yet forgiving enough to skip the puffer jackets, giving you the perfect base for experimenting with your wardrobe.

New York Fashion Week just passed, and I undeniably spent too much time scrolling through the content and admiring the runway looks. With that, here are some of my favorite trends I saw and look forward to wearing myself.

Flannel Fall
I used to think of flannel tops as too lumberjack-esque, but since seeing the print appear on the Ralph Lauren and Vivienne Westwood runways, I’ve changed my mind. Flannel tops are the perfect fall item to throw on with jeans and a fun belt. You can dress flannel up with a skirt or wear it over a dress, or you can simply wear it open over a tank or tee.

Deep Purple
Purple is the new red. I always gravitate toward a deep red during the autumn months. However, since seeing jewel-toned deep purple shades everywhere on the runway this past NYFW, I am loving it. Various purple hues are super in right now, whether it’s a purple handbag, flats, or a dress. I even saw the coolest pair of deep purple jeans!

Bandana Print
The print that is not so quietly taking over this season is bandana. From scarves to sweaters, the nostalgic Western print is making its way into every girl’s closet. There are so many ways to wear this fun print. A simple bandana belt or scarf can add so much to an outfit, but a bold bandana-print dress or sweater adds a fun and unique flair to your look.

Statement Belts
Statement belts have recently emerged as the “it” accessory and are the easiest way to spice up a simple outfit! Specifically, I’ve been seeing chic Western belts all over and love the look of a cool belt layered over a dress or cinched over a jacket and jeans. Belts are such an underrated accessory, but belt styles with oversized buckles or embellished detailing can completely change an outfit and make you feel instantly more stylish.

Fringe
Fringe, fringe, fringe! There is something about the maximalist look that also feels chic and put together. Fringe is my personal favorite of the current fashion trends and adds such a fun look and movement to outfits. It can be both fancy and casual and brings in that Western element that is trending right now.

Feel free to incorporate any of these ideas, in big or small ways, to feel like you have updated your look for the season!
