Mozelle’s: Southern Charm & Divine Dining

Situated by a cluster of fine dining restaurants on West Fourth Street, Mozelle’s should be your go-to special occasion eatery!

When my parents told me they were coming in town for the weekend and wanted to take my friends and me out to dinner, I suggested Mozelle’s. When the eight of us walked in, we were greeted by a beaming hostess and immediately seated in the restaurant’s enclosed porch area. It was 7:30 on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was filled with a lively spirit as our fellow guests talked and laughed around us.

We began with a cheeseboard and an order of fried pickles—one of the many dishes infused with southern spirit on Mozelle’s menu. The cheese board included slices of toasted sour dough, olives, blueberry compote, and four cheeses; the crumbled blue cheese melted in my mouth as it combined the perfect amount of creamy texture and subtle sour tang.

For my main course, I opted for the Atlantic Salmon. It was served on a bed of chewy farro beside a large serving of arugula tossed with a light dressing. The buttery salmon exploded with unusual peppery flavor and was cooked to perfection inside and out. The woody, grain-like taste of the farro accentuated the salmon’s spice when eaten simultaneously, and the arugula proved to be the ideal, light flavor for between bites.

We couldn’t call it a night without sampling some desserts, so we chose four out of the six listed on the menu and passed them around the table amiably. Those we selected included bourbon pecan bread pudding, flourless chocolate torte, crème brûlée, and almond ice cream. The bread pudding and crème brûlée proved to be favorites among my family and friends alike. The bread pudding was dense, soaked in a caramel sauce and served comfortably warm. While you can’t usually go wrong with a crème brûlée, this one stood out as particularly excellent: the hard surface was thin and not too sweet, and under the surface the crème seemed more milky-sweet than some of its more heavily eggy likenesses, combining into the perfect bite.

Mozelle’s is an optimal location to give either your family or friends a taste of the South in an elevated, fine dining atmosphere. Go ahead and book it for your next Parents’ Weekend visit!
