Her Impact: Hunt for Humanitate

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Picture this: It’s raining, but you’re wearing a sundress.  It’s 5:00pm and your paper is due at 7:00pm, but you haven’t started.  We all have these days where everything seems to be going wrong, but then something GREAT unexpectedly happens.  Someone hands you an umbrella?  Your teacher gives you an extension?  One simple random act of kindness can change everything.

This is the philosophy of four Calloway students: Elizabeth Bailey, James Griffin, Tyler Schutlz, and Leigh Vogedes.  As an assignment for their Calloway Leadership Experience class, these four seniors created a service-oriented scavenger hunt where Wake students can better the W-S community through random and simple acts of kindness.  On April 3rd, at 1 pm 10 teams of 4-5 students will be given a Flip Cam and list of missions to accomplish.  This list will consist of various acts of kindness ranging from helping an elderly lady pump gas to gathering all of a grocery store’s stray shopping carts.  The event will last three hours, but the memories and impact are sure to last a lifetime.

Leader Elizabeth Bailey says, “We all have packed schedules, so we often do not think to stop and help others”.  But, all collegiettes know that one act of kindness can go a long way.  And so, we encourage everyone to sign up with teams of 4-5 of your friends (including 1 driver) by Wednesday March 30th for this fantastic Hunt for Humanitate!  There will be only 10 teams, so good odds of winning, but you have to sign your team up fast!

To sign up, email huntforhumanitate@gmail.com.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams during the event.  There will also be an optional social, food included, afterwards for all participants.  It’s FREE to sign up, so what’s stopping you from embarking on this great service adventure?  Happy Hunting, collegiettes!

She especially loves African history and loves the country of South Africa. She hopes to work as a fundraiser for a nonprofit one day, but will go wherever life takes her!
Kelsey Garvey is a junior English major at Wake Forest University. Her upbringing in Connecticut, otherwise known as country club land, inspired her to write in order to escape and locate something more. Writing has also acted as her outlet to dabble in subjects far beyond her my intellectual capacity: art, culture, design, fashion, photography, and music. Other than reading Vogue and Vanity Fair cover-to-cover, Kelsey enjoys frequenting the blogosphere, speaking franglais in daily conversation, and laughing at her own pathetic jokes. Feel free to email her with any questions or comments.
