Decorating your dorm room for the holidays isn’t the easiest task in the world.  No one has the time, space or money to go out and buy a full size Christmas tree or fill a cart to the brim with tinsel from Target, especially with end-of-semester projects, papers and finals right around the corner.  To alleviate the stress, here are a few cute and easy ways to maximize your dorm room space and make it super festive for the holiday season!

Buy a mini Christmas tree.

There are always tiny Christmas trees at Target and Wal-Mart that are perfect for a small space.  Put some tinsel or little ornaments on it and place it somewhere central in your room—this is a great piece to put on top of those beautiful microwave-refrigerator combos we all have, just to spice it up a little bit!

Make snowflakes.

Invite a group of your friends over to cut up pieces of white construction or computer paper to make snowflakes that can decorate everyone’s rooms.  You can even get a set of paint pens or glitter to add some color to them and then hang them all over your room. And if you want to get fancy, get on YouTube and learn how to make a more elaborate snowflake or snowflake chain.

Adorn your room with lights.

We all know that the Lighting of the Quad is coming up on Thursday at 7 p.m., so why not light up your room for the holiday season as well? Buy a cheap set of white or colored Christmas lights and hang them around your room.  You can hang them on the walls using Command hooks that will peel off easily after the holidays are over.

Accessorize with a garland.

For those of us with windows in our dorm rooms, put up a simple tension rod between the sides of the windows and hang a beautiful green garland on it so that it swoops like curtains.  You can even wrap some holiday lights around the decor to further add to the spirit! No tension rod? No problem. Again, Command hooks are your best friend!

Wrap your door like a present.

Pick out your favorite festive wrapping paper and wrap your door up like a present! Make sure you measure the wrapping paper out first before you tape it on so that it looks smooth and even on the outside. You can even tape a cute ribbon to it to add some flare.  Just be careful to check that you can still shut the door when you’re finished!

Hang a wreath on your door.

Hang a small decorative wreath on the outside of your door with a Command hook (again, a dorm-room-decorator’s best friend!) to greet your friends walking by with the holiday spirit! Cute accents like ribbons and embedded ornaments can make your wreath unique and stand out even more.

Don’t forget the mistletoe!

Hang a little sprig of mistletoe in your doorway – quite possibly the most important detail for your festive room and also the perfect way to initiate a goodnight kiss from that special someone!

While decorating your room for the holidays may seem like a daunting task, trust me collegiettes™, it’s possible! The key to decorating this holiday season is to think about creative ways to maximize the small space you have to make your dorm room look as festive as possible. Happy decorating, and happy holidays!
