Graham Nichols (’18)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Name: Graham Nichols

Hometown: Jacksonville, Fla.

Year: Freshman

Relationship Status: Single

As a frequent participant in philanthropy, this freshman plans on shaving his head for Deacs Vs. Cancer this Thursday, April 16!  He’s a socialite who travels to China, enjoys going to concerts, and taking short walks on the beach – meet this week’s Campus Cutie, Graham Nichols!

Her Campus (HC): What activities are you involved with on or off campus?

Graham Nichols (GN): I participated in Wake ‘N Shake and I’m going to participate in Deacs Vs. Cancer!

HC: Oh, cool!  Can you tell me more about Deacs Vs. Cancer?  What exactly is the event?

GN: Deacs Vs. Cancer is an annual fundraising event to raise enough money to pay for the medical costs for cancer patients.  A lot of guys at Wake create their own fundraising pages online and reach out to all of their friends and family in order to maximize the donations for the event.  In mid-April, we all get our heads completely shaved in attempt to create more awareness about cancer.  I am participating because I personally have some friends and family friends who have been diagnosed with cancer.  Also, it’s really just an event that anyone can become involved in and help out other people.  I am looking forward to participating in this event year after year.

HC: That sounds awesome.  Are you nervous about shaving your head?

GN: Yeah, I’ve never been bald before except when I was born [laughs].  I’m probably going to look pretty ugly, and my head’s going to be pretty weird, but it’s for a good cause!

HC: [Laughs] I’m sure you’ll look just fine!  So do you know yet what you want to major in?

GN: I don’t know – I would say math or business, and I’m going to minor in Chinese.

HC: Have you ever been to China?

GN: Yeah!  I’ve gone for the past two summers.  You can have fun there!

HC: When you are chilling in the States, what do you do in your spare time?

GN: I play golf, paddleboard, and I like short walks on the beach.

HC: Short walks but not long walks, huh?

GN: With long walks on the beach, you get sunburned.

HC: Good point!

GN: I also really like music related stuff.  I love going to concerts, and I dabble in playing the piano.

HC: Is there a particular genre you listen to?

GN: I have a country playlist, a rock playlist, and a rap playlist.  I listen to all kinds of music except for Beethoven [laughs] – just everything but opera and Miley Cyrus.

HC: You don’t like Miley?  I’m offended [laughs]!

GN: [Laughs] Will that offend the ladies?

HC: It could!

GN: I’m a big fan of the new Taylor Swift – not the country Taylor Swift.  She has some good stuff.

HC: Do you have a favorite song from her new album?

GN: All I know is “Style” and “Blank Space” from that album, so I’d probably say “Blank Space.”

HC: Taylor loves her love songs!  What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?

GN: My girlfriend in high school and I watched “Animal House” together.  I’m not really a romantic kind of person!

HC: When you were younger, what did you want to grow up to be?

GN: I just wanted to drive cars.

HC: Interesting choice [laughs]!  What is a fun fact about yourself?

GN: I like saying pick-up lines.  Sometimes they’re inappropriate.  Some girls think they’re really funny, but then you get some who are just like, “Why did you just say that?”

HC: [Laughs] With summer right around the corner, what are you looking forward to doing?

GN: I’ll be working at a golf course at home.

HC: Are you a caddy?

GN: Sometimes, but mainly I teach junior golf camp and maybe do maintenance crew.

HC: Fun!  So reflecting on your first year at college, what’s your favorite memory so far?

GN: There are just so many choices.  The last darty was really fun during Easter weekend.  Everyone from the whole school came out.  It was pretty fun!
