It’s nine in the morning. You’re carrying your frat flip flops (because anything else is just not worth getting ruined), your keys, and your phone (out of battery, of course). Your head is pounding as your hangover starts to hit, and you’re trying to walk in a straight line back to your room. Your hair is in a messy side bun, and your make up is smeared across your face. You cross the brick sidewalk, pass the frat lounges, pass the pit, and scurry your way back to your dorm as fast as you can. You see girls, looking just the way you do, doing the same thing. You give a little head nod, but mainly keep your face down, hoping that nobody will see you…
Sound familiar? If it hasn’t happened to you, it’s likely happened to a friend. Girls, we are talking about the famous Walk of Shame (WOS). No one wants to be caught rushing back to their dorm the next morning, so I am here to help you avoid this uncomfortable situation by giving you a couple key strategies. Walk tall, collegiettes, and read on…
WOS #1 The early bird gets the…er, sidewalk…
Wake up early. Most girls scurry back home at around nine in the morning. Rather than getting caught in the morning-after traffic, try getting up even earlier to avoid all the stares. Though it’s hard to open those bleary eyes after such a fun night, it’s worth it to be able to get home without people seeing you, and then fall back asleep in your own, comfortable bed. It’s like the WOS never even happened!
WOS #2 Friends help friends disguise their walk of shames…
Have one of your friends come pick you up from the frat lounge (or wherever you are…) and bring some extra clothes for you to change into. You get the chance to have someone to walk with (so people won’t assume you’re walking from that lucky guy’s dorm), and you’re not sporting that sexy tight dress from the previous night in broad daylight. It most likely has beer or punch stains on it, anyways.
WOS #3 The best offense is a good defense...
This is probably the most obvious solution, but certainly not the easiest…don’t sleep over in the guys’ room! Have a little fun at night, but then come home and sleep in your own bed. Think about it: you get to wake up the next day, happy that you don’t have to hustle across campus to get home safe, sound, and unseen. Plus, sleeping sprawled out in your own bed rather than being squished in his tiny twin is an unparalelled bonus.
Well, I’ve told you what to do. Now it’s up to you. Get up a little earlier? Have a good friend help you out? Sleep in your own bed?
Or just face the mornining-after WOS tall and proud…now that’s what we call collegiette-confidance. Happy trails!
