Foodie: Shake it Up at Silo

Picture this: It’s a Wednesday afternoon, classes have long since ended, and after hours spent hibernating in ZSR your stomach is grumbling loud enough to get you dirty looks from the studious deacs surrounding you. You walk out into the sunshine, and the blue skies convince you to grab a group of friends and stretch your legs. So, you walk to Reynolda Village for a quick bite. As you emerge from the tree-covered paths, you stumble upon the quaint outdoor patio of Silo Bistro & Bar, where you and your friends settle in for a relaxing afternoon of delicious food.

The menu is full of interesting and eclectic dishes. If you’re a barbecue fan, you can never go wrong with a plate of Pulled Pork Tacos or a Piggly Wiggly Panini. If you’re feeling Italian, the Caprese salad has mozzarella so fresh you’ll think they have the cow hidden somewhere in the kitchen. And when your sweet tooth hits, the S’mores Tart never disappoints.

But you absolutely cannot leave without trying the Baked Brie. Forget everything you think you know about cheese – it’s the ooey-gooey, salty-sweet starter you never knew could taste so good. Literally, I’m talking about a brick of brie cheese wrapped in puff pastry, baked to the perfect level of golden-brown crispiness, and drizzled with warm caramel sauce. Are you drooling yet? Once you break through the flaky exterior to the soft cheesy core, you have only seconds to spread it over a crisp slice of Granny Smith apple for a tangy and refreshing compliment to that warm and creamy brie. It’s good to the very last bite!

After spoiling yourself, you walk back to campus to burn off a bit of your delicious dinner. With a satisfied tummy, you feel rejuvenated, as you settle in for a long night of more studying followed by dreams of Baked Brie.
