I brought my parents to a darty….

This past weekend my dad, stepmom, and six-year-old sister came to visit me. After planning out activities that the whole family would enjoy, the weather turned out to be cold and grey. So, after a driving tour of Winston-Salem and campus, which took about 30 minutes if that, I was trying to figure out what we could do. My dad then asked me, “How do you typically spend your Saturdays?”, and I answered, “I usually darty”. So, at 3:30 p.m. my dad drove our rental pick-up truck — which he was so proud of—  to the darty.

At first, we were given questioning looks from people. Many faces in the crowd of college students expressed, “I can’t believe she brought her parents” or “why is there a baby here…” But soon, people were coming up to take photographs with my dad and pretty much catering to his every need. He had taken a time machine back to college and was loving it. He was back in his element.

I was nervous to walk in with my parents: nervous about what people would think or what people would say. And even though the reception was very positive, as long as I was having fun, and they were having fun, who cares what people would think anyway?

So, while here are some activities you can do with your parents when they come to visit…

  1. Food, food, and more food

  2. Walk Reynolda Trails

  3. Show them around Winston and Wake Downtown

…I recommend dartying
