Are you the collegiette who didn’t have the money to go out and buy some extravagant Halloween costume this year and kept saying you’d figure it out? Well now today is Halloween and the realization that you never did is here. But don’t worry, you are not alone! Being a college kid means working on a budget with a limited amount of time. How are we expected to come up with some cute, yet classy, costume in between studying for exams, going to class, and doing homework?? Halloween is supposed to be fun not stressful so I’m here to give you some economically friendly DIY costumes that you can throw together after class today and still look fabulous at Last Resort tonight!

As our article about what not to wear on Halloween said last weekdon’t use this holiday as an excuse to not wear clothing. No one likes the girl who shows up in a bra and thinks that’s a costume. We’re here to tell you that is lingerie and should be kept for the bedroom, not the bar. That brings us to our first DIY costume: Audrey Hepburn. Try and think of a woman classier than this icon – you can’t. Here’s how you can easily become one of history’s finest with things you already have.

What you’ll need:

  • A black dress
  • Pearls
  • Dark sunglasses
  • Black pumps
  • A crown
  • Red lipstick
  • Black gloves

If crowns aren’t your style, try being a Greek goddess. Follow our list of items and people will mistake you for Aphrodite!

What you’ll need:

  • A white dress
  • Gold shoes/sandals
  • A headband
  • Gold jewelry

If you don’t like these options so far, try being a school girl for Halloween (after all we are college students).  But let’s remember to keep it classy. Make sure your outfit isn’t reminiscent of Britney Spears circa 1999. This costume is perfect for you collegiettes who went to Catholic school – time to dig out that plaid skirt you never wanted to wear again, dust it off and create a costume that steers you away from sin.

What you’ll need:

  • Plaid skirt
  • White collard shirt/polo
  • High socks
  • Hair in pigtails/braids
  • Optional: Carry around a backpack or stick a pencil in your hair for additional cute accessories

*Tip: Be extra safe and wear spandex shorts under your skirt to ensure no one sees anything they shouldn’t!

All of these costumes may seem a little girly. If skirts, dresses, and pearls aren’t your style and you’d rather be in running shorts, here is your perfect costume! Be a referee. Not only do you get to wear comfy clothing while still looking cute but you get to carry around a whistle. And you never know when that might come in handy…

What you’ll need:

  • Black shorts
  • Black and white-striped shirt
  • High socks
  • A whistle

And if none of these options appeal to you, remember one thing: You are living in the South. Even though Wake provides its students with a bubble of kids from all over and some diversity, you’re still in North Carolina and you can never go wrong with being a Cowgirl. My advice for this costume is skip the daisy dukes and wear jeans.  You will still look cute, much classier, and you’ll be warm. That’s what I call a win-win-win.

What you’ll need:

  • Plaid shirt/Flannel
  • Jeans
  • Cowboy boots
  • Bandana
  • Optional: Cowboy hat

We just provided you with five easy, budget-friendly, classy yet cute costumes. Do you know what that means? It means you will have no excuse to go traipsing through the Forest half-naked complaining that all you had to work with was a sports bra, cat ears, and stilettos….because no one is buying that.

Happy Halloween, collegiettes! We can’t wait to see you tonight
