Day Party Essentials

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Last weekend’s beautiful weather was a nice teaser for the upcoming months. With warmer weather and longer days, we can be sure that all of our favorite fraternities will be having lots of day parties, or “darties”. Darty outfits are much different than outfits for going out at night; here are a few essentials to make sure your outfit is darty ready.

Clothes

Not being stuck in a crowded, sweaty frat basement leaves many options for outfits. Personally, I love wearing casual dresses. When it’s hot out throwing on a light dress is easy and looks great! Try to avoid jeans, because it gets so hot out that you’ll be too focused on how uncomfortable and sweaty you are. If it’s still chilly outside, a dress with a sweater is the perfect mix of casual and comfortable.

Shoes

While we don’t have to worry about frat sludge outdoors, it can usually be pretty muddy outside, so you still won’t want to wear nice shoes. Like tailgates, cowboy boots are always popular at darties – as long as you don’t mind them getting a little dirty! If you’re in a sorority, Chucks are always an easy go-to because it doesn’t matter how dirty they get and they can easily be thrown in a washing machine (I’ve already washed mine twice!). If you’re not in a sorority, don’t fret; sneakers or boots are always an option. Try to avoid any type of sandal though cause that will just get gross and messy!

Accessories

In the middle of the day the sun is at its brightest, so be prepared. Wear sunglasses and throw on a sunhat to protect your eyes and face. Sunhats are one of my favorite accessories and are actually functional – they keep you cooler and protect your part from getting sunburned. Speaking of sunburns, if you’re like me and you burn by just walking outside. I would make sure you wear sunscreen! Not only will you get weird tan lines from a dress, but it’s also extremely important to protect your skin!
