COVID-19 x WFU: 5 Must-Do Activities for a Fun and Safe Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

1. Visit Reynolda Village Gardens & Trails

Hey you, get outside! As some of you may have noticed, it is already starting to feel like fall. Take advantage of the extra free time you have on a Saturday and go for a stroll through the beautiful Reynolda gardens and trails. Last year, I did not know how incredibly beautiful the gardens were because I never took time out of my weekends to go. This year, I am so thankful I’ve made the time to explore more of Reynolda and take in the beauty it has to offer and I encourage you to do the same.

2. Feel like brunchin’? Here’s a list of my top 3 favorite brunch places in Winston.

-MIDTOWN CAFE

First of all, Midtown Cafe is one of the coziest brunch places I’ve ever been to. Nothing screams “Southern Brunch” more than this place. The portions are huge and it has the southern charm. The menu is packed with delicious home fries, pancakes, omelet platters, fabulous lattes and coffee drinks, and so much more. You must check out their menu

-FIRST WATCH- WINSTON SALEM

If you’re an avocado toast fan, you have to check this place out. First Watch brunch is a brunch like no other. Thick-cut toast topped with a yummy avo spread is exactly how I like to spend my weekend mornings. Also, they have seasonal coffee beverages!

-DIOLI’S ITALIAN MARKET

I am not exaggerating when I say this…Dioli’s is not your average Italian market. Waking up on a Saturday morning is not complete in my book without a Dioli’s bacon, egg, and cheese on freshly baked focaccia. Don’t even get me started on their hot breakfast sandwiches…they are truly life-altering. A must try!

3. Bagel Station & road trip

Last semester, a few of my close friends and I took advantage of the beautiful weather we were having one weekend and decided to take a little road trip to Pilot Mountain. First, we stopped at Bagel Station along the way. Bagel Station is up there with Dioli’s in terms of favorite breakfast sandwiches for me. They have over a dozen flavors of bagels with a variety of cream cheeses as well. Bagel Station is the perfect place to look forward to after a long week of schoolwork. Not only that, it is so close to campus. After getting bagels, we road tripped to Pilot Mountain for a hike. Sometimes, just getting off campus is so mentally refreshing, especially when you are spending time outdoors. Pilot Mountain is a stunning place to hang out and enjoy a beautiful hike.

4. Charcuterie picnic at the Graylyn

SUNNY SATURDAY AFTERNOONS CALL FOR… CHARCUTERIE BOARDS! Gather those cute blankets and charcuterie ingredients for a nice outdoor picnic. The Graylyn property is the perfect environment to do so. What could be better than a charcuterie board with your friends on a Saturday? Don’t forget your masks!

5. Bake your favorite sweet treat

For me, Sunday is all about self-care… and self-care Sunday is not complete without a day dedicated to baking your favorite treats. Make those cookies or bake those brownies and enjoy! You deserve them.
