Carolina Cup 2011

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

It’s that time of year again: Carolina Cup! Bring on the sundresses, bow ties and kegs . . . oh and the horses, too! Every year, WFU students, along with college kids from schools all over the South, travel to Camden, South Carolina to enjoy the horse races at Carolina Cup. But let’s be real – most everyone is really there for the best tailgate of the year.  Girls and boys throw on their preppiest attire and sunglasses in the wee hours of the morning to begin the three-hour trek from Wake. Once at the grounds, everyone can enjoy mingling at the hundreds of tailgating tents that line the college park. It can seem a challenge to find a familiar face in the endless crowds Lilly dresses and Vineyard Vines bow ties, let alone actually catch a glimpse of the horses. Whether it’s a live band or a buffet of pulled pork, each tent has it its own flavor and fun. This year was my third and last year attending Carolina Cup. After facing wind storms and rain in  past years, this year’s sunny Saturday proved perfect for hanging out with friends in our preppiest frocks. Here are some shots I snapped at (sadly) my last Carolina Cup – enjoy!

Her upbringing in Connecticut, otherwise known as country club land, inspired her to write in order to escape and locate something more. Writing has also acted as her outlet to dabble in subjects far beyond her my intellectual capacity: art, culture, design, fashion, photography, and music. Other than reading Vogue and Vanity Fair cover-to-cover, Kelsey enjoys frequenting the blogosphere, speaking franglais in daily conversation, and laughing at her own pathetic jokes.
