Thanksgiving has come and gone and now the winter season is right on its way. As we are getting ready for our Holiday family get-togethers, however, too often our skin can get flaky, red, and irritated from the harsh winter winds. Unfortunately, extremely dry skin can also make skin more acne-prone, leading to even more distress in front of the mirror.

Luckily I’ve discovered some great tricks over the years to lock in moisture in my skin. One trick is a home-made oatmeal mask. In a blender, blend uncooked oatmeal, half a banana, honey, and plain yogurt. Leave the mixture on your face for 15 minutes, and wash off.

Another tip is use an over-night moisture-intense cream. I like Neutrogena Ultra-Soothing Cream because it also won’t clog pores. Once a week, exfoliate skin using a gentle face scrub. Then apply the over-night cream generously…and then get your beauty sleep!

One last tip is to moisturize periodically throughout the day. You may not want to use a cream, but instead use a lightweight oil-free moisturizer. Being a huge Neutrogena fan, I use Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Oil-Free Moisturizer. Apply under make-up in the morning, at lunch, and even once during the afternoon. It will be a good defense against the harsh cold winds on your walk to class.

Use these tips, and you’ll be fierce and flawless all winter long. Keep calm, and moisture on.
