We’re about a month into school at the Forest, and everyone has probably already been bombarded with papers and exams. “Work Forest” truly is a real thing around here. But, my fellow collegiettes, I am sure that while you are excessively taking notes during lecture, setting up experiments for your Chem lab, and participating in class discussions, there’s something that is particularly distracting—or rather, someone.

You see him from three seats down, and you think, “Oh wow, he’s attractive” or “I wonder if he will ever talk to me.” Well, with the right mindset and knowledge, it’s possible for you to grab his interest. The key is to not try too hard. Here is a list of simple things that you should consider before making an official move on your Class Cutie:
- Look nice: I’m not saying you should look like you’re heading to a Hollywood event, but we can’t expect our crushes to swoon over us if we head to class wearing baggy sweatpants and an oversized hoodie. Stick to outfits that you feel pretty in, but that you’re also comfortable in. Whether it’s a dress, or jeans, or sweater and leggings, wear what you think you look good in. Be sure to look clean, bright and inviting! Taming your “bed-head” can make a huge difference too. However, the key is confidence. If you are confident in what you wear, then it will show others—most importantly, your crush.

- Speak up in class: If a teacher asks the class if they have any questions, ask a question. If you are having a class discussion in your seminar class, discuss the given topic thoroughly. If you speak up more in class, instead of slumping in your chair hiding, you will be more of an individual in the classroom. Not only will classmates know you are, but your crush may also acknowledge you as a smart and confident individual.
- Socialize with your classmates: Now that you are more comfortable in the class, communicate with your classmates more. Talk to the people you sit next to the five minutes before class starts, or offer to set up a study group to prepare for the upcoming mid-term. If you invite more classmates into a conversation, chances are he will join in too. That way, you have a chance to finally talk to him in a subtle way. If you’re bold enough, invite him to join your new study group.

- Talk to him outside of the classroom: If you’re walking to the library, and you happen to run into your crush, don’t just say a quick hello and pass him by. Instead, stop for a couple of minutes and talk to him. Ask him how his day is and whether he has a crazy amount of homework as well. Smile and be kind, but don’t overdo it. Your friendliness and kind conversation will attract him and make him smile as well. Now doubt, he will think about you on his way back to his seat in the library.
Although I didn’t supply you with a list of ways to truly “get” your crush, I did supply you with a list of ways to get him to notice you more. Just watch. Now he will say hey to you more, talk to you once class is over with, and may even walk with you until you both head to your dorms. These are the starting steps in getting to know your crush, and once you make it this far, getting his number and hanging out with him will not be far behind.
Until next time,
Aphrodite
