Valentine’s Day can be either really fun, or very stressful. To avoid the latter, below is a list of ideas to help you enjoy the day, whether you are in a committed relationship or happily living the single life.
For the Taken:
- Go out to breakfast: What’s sweeter than getting up in the morning to grab breakfast with your man? Since V-Day falls on a school day this year, a great breakfast is a perfect way to start the busy day ahead of you—and help you to look forward to your time together afterward. Besides, who can say no to pancakes and bacon?Â
- Venture downtown: Winston-Salem has countless cute shops and restaurants downtown. Grab a taxi (or Zipcar) and stroll the streets to check out what there is. Since it’s a Friday night, the streets will already be lively. This small city may surprise you and your hunny with the amounts of fun it offers.Â
- Casual movie night: Another option for you and your S.O. is for you two to take it easy Friday night. Order in Chinese food or pizza, turn on some Netflix, and snuggle with your man. Everyone loves a relaxing night, and it will even be better now that you’re relaxing with the person you care about the most.
- Stroll down memory lane: Do you remember what the two of you did for your first date? Did you take a walk in the park, or eat at a local restaurant? Relive that first time together on this romantic day! It’s cute, simple, and a fun way to relive those favorite moments.Â
For the Single:
- Grab dinner with friends: For those of you single ladies, Valentine’s Day can still be just as romantic and fun! It’s simple. Grab all of your single friends, look cute, and go to a nice restaurant downtown. Celebrate that you are all single together. This may not be a bad thing, because you know single guys will probably be checking you out while you’re with your girls.Â
- Movies with your celeb crush: Grab your favorite Ryan Gosling movie and kick back with a friend or two for the night. The Notebook and Crazy Stupid Love are great contenders—not meaning to be clichĂ© of course. Perhaps after your dinner out, the same group of ladies can join in on the Ryan Gosling marathon, too. Â
- Treat yourself: Why wait for a guy to buy you chocolate? All of those boxes and bags full of goodies also attract the single crowd. Forget your Spring Break diet for the day and buy your favorite package of Hershey’s or Lindt Truffles. And the best part, you don’t have to worry about being judged, because many, many other people will be doing the same thing.
- Party party! Valentine’s Day is on a Friday. And everyone knows that when Friday night comes around, people will be dressing in their party attire to go out. Chances are, people in relationships won’t be at the parties (or may show up late due to dinner plans), which will make it easier for you to find the single guys to chat with. Enjoy your freedom, and treat V-Day like every other Friday night.
Until next time,
