North Carolina is no stranger to a nice long rainy period. Especially after this past weekend of on and off downpours, trying to find the motivation to get out of your cozy bed is hard. However, that’s what this list is for! With not only weather restrictions but COVID-19 restrictions as well, finding things to do can be hard. However, here are four fun things to do by yourself or with your friends on a rainy day!

Movie Marathon

This one is a no brainer. The idea of curling up with a cup of hot chocolate and some fresh popcorn to watch a movie does nothing but warm my soul. Remember all those classics? Harry Potter! Clueless! Legally Blonde! It’s time to queue them up again. Maybe you need a good cry; The Notebook and Marley and Me never fail. How about a laugh? The Hangover and The Interview are always solid. And of course everyone could always use a little Timotheé Chalamet or Chris Evans in their life. What’s not to love!

Arts and Crafts

Let’s kick it back to the younger days and make a space for some designated craft time. This is a great way to decompress and have an outlet to channel some creativity that we may be lacking during all this school work. DIY cowboy hats are hot right now and something that you and your friends can make together. Also, making paper decorations for halloween can put you in the spooky spirit. Even if it’s something as simple as drawing with some pencils or markers, art is always a great way to spend your time.

Get Your -Ish Together

Nothing feels better than the feeling you get after you successfully clean your room. The feeling of having everything organized and put away in a specific spot is so nice. Especially living in a small dorm space that you probably share, making sure that your living space is as clean and put away as possible will make you feel so much better. And, what a perfect time to do it when you can’t do anything else! Being trapped inside isn’t all that bad if it forces you to get stuff done. Along with this, deep cleaning doesn’t just have to be a physical space, it can be your inbox, photo albums, or hard drive!

Self-care

It’s ok to focus on you. Especially being in the midst of midterms, taking alone time for yourself to recover is something that everyone should divulge in. Whether it be a nice long shower, face mask, or even just sleeping in more, take this forced time inside to treat yourself to some you time. Don’t feel guilty about taking some time off from midterms studying to check in on yourself.

On another note, this past week was Mental Health Awareness Week! Even though the week has passed, that doesn’t mean caring about mental health has to be over too. Make sure to check up on your friends, as well as your own wellness, to make sure everyone is ok and has the resources they need. Especially in the world we are living in today, mental health is something that needs to continue to be destigmatized and discussed. Do your part, check-in, and remember that it’s ok not to be ok.
