5 Fall Transition Pieces You NEED in Your Closet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

When you go to school in North Carolina, it takes forever for fall weather to arrive. As a South Carolina native, I have a few tips for adding those *fall vibes* to your wardrobe … even if it’s still 80 degrees out!

Find a dark, clunky sandal to pair with jeans

No matter what you wear on top, jeans and a dark clunky shoe scream fall. Make it a sandal on those warmer days. This pairing– even with a neutral tank on top– is a great look to *pretend* it’s chilly outside.

Take the leap and get that oversized blazer!

We all know the blazer is on the rise (#girlboss), but it’s also one of my favorite hacks for when those chilly mornings are followed by warmer, sunny afternoons. Wear a tank or tee underneath and your layers will keep you looking and feeling cool no matter what the temperature is outside.

Midi skirts & dresses are IT

Midi’s FILLED my Insta feed this summer … and they’re coming with us into fall style too! Pair sneakers with a tan, beige, or green midi skirt/dress to still get that airy cool feeling while also being ready for fall!

White after Labor Day? Absolutely

This rule is completely dated. I love white and wear it year-round. Search for white cropped sweaters or baggy, wide-leg pants. Pair with a beige or creme piece to get that monochrome look. Or, mix in darker accessories to make your look blend into a more traditional fall fit.

Denim, denim, DENIM!

Denim is synonymous with fall. Break out that jean jacket early this year, or replace a white with a denim shirt to make any fit more fall. Look for denim everywhere: shoes, headbands, belts … incorporating any jean material will anchor in autumn style until it’s time for sweater weather.
