The only thing I was sad to leave behind after high school graduation (besides my friends, of course) was school dances — specifically homecoming and prom. At my school, everyone went all-out when it came time for big school dances: fancy dress, hair, makeup, manis and pedis, special dinners with friends, endless pictures, and of course, the event itself.
Well, collegiettes™, we may not have annual proms or homecoming dances, but we do have something WAY better: President’s Ball. What began as a way to celebrate President Hatch’s inauguration six years ago has become an infamous biennial tradition at Wake that attracts Demon Deacons from all over the country!
So what should you expect this Friday? Here are the top 10 reasons why everyone should go to the President’s Ball:
1. The President’s Ball is the only school event that’s free and open to the entire Wake Forest community—faculty, staff, students, administration and alumni!
2. You get to get all dressed up! Trade in your fratty T-shirts and chucks for cocktail dresses and hot heels. Put away the fanny packs and dust off that cute clutch that you just had to snag this summer.
3. Learn some awesome new dance moves from President and Mrs. Nathan O. Hatch (I mean, how many times in life do you get to see Hatch breaking it down on stage?). And don’t forget to miss his grand yacht-themed entrance around 10:30 p.m.!
4. You reunite with recent graduates … and not for a job interview! Connect with old friends and meet alumni who are just as crazy about them Deacs as you!
5. Lots and lots and lots of fancy free food … served by posh waiters!
6. No one has to worry about getting a DD or paying for a 2-way taxi ride. Free (and efficient) shuttle buses to and from the Coliseum.

7. (For those 21 and over …) Cash bar! No need to fret over what exactly is in the punch.
8. You don’t have to have a date — seriously! Most people go as a big group. So grab some guys and girls, and get ready to tag team!
9. Hip Pocket, Spurge, jazz room – they’ve got the whole musical gamut! Ditch your rager pregame playlist for the night, and come hear some real music!
10. You’ll find out why graduating seniors have ranked the President’s Ball as the single most memorable experience of their Wake Forest careers. The Ball is sure to be one the most fun and memorable nights of your Wake experience.
