Between my early classes, campus events, and random side quests, I used to think, “How in the world would I keep up with my beauty maintenance with all this stuff I got going on?” Don’t get me wrong, I love a good beauty maintenance day, especially when it comes to lashes, but trying to fit that into a very hectic schedule was already adding way too much to my plate.
That’s when I found out about the best lash hack I’ve ever tried: lash clusters. Those tiny, fluffy lash clusters that give you the extension look while lasting longer than lash strips completely changed the way I do my lashes while elevating my look.
Why Lash Clusters Are the Perfect Middle Ground
Lash clusters are a beauty hack that every girl needs. They are small, pre-made sections of false lashes placed under your natural lashes with a bond and sealant that can last for days. They can look exactly like extensions for a cheaper price, with less commitment, and take less time to do (because who honestly wants to lie down on a lash bed for over two hours or more, knowing you’re fidgety and have an assignment due at 11:58?).
My personal favs are the Yaiseko Fluffy Lash Clusters 300D D Curl set, Kmilro Thick Lash Clusters 240D Clusters, and Calphdiar Lash Cluster Brand for spikes and bottoms. They all come in lengths between 12mm and 25mm. I like full and dramatic sets that give off that extension look, so these brands always achieve that for me. But they can also give that subtle yet fluffy look depending on the lengths you use.
Now, when you’re rushing out of your dorm, you can still look more put together and awake, even if you barely had enough sleep the other night.
The Confidence Lash Clusters Can Give You
One thing I can attest to is the confidence that having your lashes done can give you—especially through the Hill. When my lashes are done, I feel more put together and have my head held a little higher, even if I just have some sweats on.
At an HBCU like VSU, creativity and self-expression are a big thing—a part of our culture. Lash clusters not only elevated my look but also became my own little act of self-care while helping me stretch my creativity on what lash styles fit me, and while playing around with other looks. Because no matter where you go, it’s nice to know you look like you have it all together, even when you’re stressed and juggling everything.
Tips for a Flawless Application
If it’s your first time trying lash clusters, here are some tips and tricks that worked for me:
• If you truly want that extension look, curve your outer corner lashes to the side so that the first lash gives that “lifted” extension effect.
• Be patient and use tweezers. When you first do it, it might feel awkward, but don’t let that discourage you. Make sure to apply it above your waterline so it won’t cause discomfort.
• A good bond and seal go a long way. If you want your lashes to last, a strong bond can help them stick, and a good sealant can seal the deal on the look. If you want to go the extra mile, I use Salon Pro Eyelash Glue for a longer hold and quicker dry.
• Make sure your lashes are clean and dry. If your lashes are full of debris or wet, it makes it harder for the application to stick or for the set to last in general.
• Be gentle when removing your clusters. Depending on the bond and seal, it usually comes with a remover as well. If not, you can use an oil-based remover (especially if you’re using the Salon Pro) or micellar water. Please don’t just rip them off because you still need your real lashes, sis.
Cut Down the Time, Increase the Confidence
Lash clusters aren’t just another beauty hack—they show that looking good doesn’t have to come with the stress of maintaining it. Especially for the girlies balancing everything college throws at us. Instead of stressing over lash appointments or getting frustrated over putting on some lash strips, you can wake up looking like the ultimate “it” girl.
