If you find yourself bored with plenty of free time this Thanksgiving break, I have a couple of film recommendations that are worth checking out. Around this time, people typically find themselves hitting a metaphorical wall as the end of the year approaches. Allowing yourself to relax and enjoy different stories of various fictional characters might help rekindle your spark. I find that certain films move me or teach me a lesson of sorts. Consuming art, like cinema, will not only keep you occupied but might be the perfect reset before you head back to school or work.

“Sabrina”

A 1954 classic starring Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart, “Sabrina” is a sentimental and comedic romance film that follows a woman’s story of self-discovery, battling between her past and future. This is a comforting and timeless film that is a great pick if you are looking for an old Hollywood romance.

“Gone Girl”

A must-watch if you are a fan of the mystery or thriller genre. Ben Affleck plays the husband of Rosamund Pike in the film, with his character being the prime suspect in his wife’s unexplained disappearance. The acting for both roles is done phenomenally in capturing the sheer insanity and intrigue of this story.

“The other woman”

“The Other Woman” is a more lighthearted, comedic choice that follows the hilarious revenge of three women who unknowingly are all in a relationship with the same man. If you have any girlfriends to watch this with, I highly recommend having a movie night. I promise you will all be laughing the entire time and finish it with a sense of empowerment.

“Casino royale”

Being a big fan of the James Bond films, I had to add “Casino Royale” to this list. The first Daniel Craig film in the Bond series, “Casino Royale” is full of heart-racing action and high-quality cinematography. The story follows a British Secret Service agent whose mission involves a Russian spy and a high-stakes game of poker.

Although I strongly vouch for these movies, feel free to explore other genres and the hidden gems of the cinematic world. The power behind film is worth using not only as entertainment but inspiration. Go make a list of all the movies you have been meaning to watch, and ask friends and family for any recommendations as well. If you’re cooped up at home this holiday season, delve into different storylines, as they will undoubtedly inspire emotion within you and allow you to appreciate this season of life.
