Top 5 Netflix Series to Binge Watch This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter.

The fall semester is about to start which means free time will become limited and the summer nights of binge watching long series on Netflix are ending. While I took classes this summer, I found a few series that were quick to watch in a day or two. Even if I spread the episodes out, I wouldn’t easily forget key plot points. Since memory space in our brains will be needed for various classes and because free time will start to be allocated towards studying, I figured I’d share my top five series that are quick, fun and entertaining to binge or spread out over time.

  1. GLOW

This is an amazing series, and I can’t wait for the second season to come out! I never thought that female wrestling set in the 1980s would be interesting, but I ended up watching the entire first season in ONE DAY. It is filled with drama, love, failing friendships, surprise plot twists and everything in between. While there is only one season out right now; it’s worth watching, especially since season two has been confirmed by Netflix and the entire cast.

  1. Riverdale

If you love the Archie Comics then you may or may not love this show. While it is based on the comic series, it is VERY different and the plot is not solely centered on the iconic love triangle of Archie, Betty and Veronica. The first season ends with a cliffhanger that will make anyone clench their teeth; but not to worry, season two comes out on the CW in October so it’ll be on Netflix before you know it!

  1. Santa Clarita Diet

This is not the typical vampire or zombie show. It’s pure comedy with Drew Barrymore as the star, and we all know that she has some of the BEST movies (especially comedies) out there today. There are serious moments of course, but the funny aspects make the serious real life questions and situations easy to watch. Season two is planned to come out in 2018 on Netflix, so we’ll soon have more crazy zombie antics to watch soon.

  1. Weeds

There are eight seasons of this series so if you’re looking for something a little longer, then this might be for you. It follows a suburban mom as she struggles to raise her two children and turns to weed as a source of income. I won’t spoil it anymore for you, but I will say that if you don’t like vulgar language or drugs then this is not a show that I would suggest watching.

  1. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

Gilmore Girls was the first series that I ever “binged” because my mom bought me the DVDs of every season and I spent an entire summer making sure I hadn’t missed any of the episodes that I had so diligently watched every day the summer before on TV. This recap series was everything I needed and wanted to help give me closure on every question I ever had. Unfortunately there are still some questions left, like will Rory finally choose Jess and leave that jerk Logan behind? Netflix has approved a season two, but seeing as though it took almost a decade for their schedules to work out for this small recap I wouldn’t’ hold my breath for it to happen anytime soon.

Whether you enjoy binge watching or consciously scheduled viewing, be sure to consider these suggestions for your fall Netflix festivities.
