Thanksgiving Break is approaching us fast and sometimes we can find ourselves with a lot of free time outside of celebrating the holiday. I’ve compiled some ideas of things you can do during this break to keep a productive yet relaxing spirit. Â
The first idea and the simplest is of course to watch a new fall show or rewatch a fall show. Now by fall show I mean a show that gives fall and holiday feelings. Shows such as Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, or Vampire Diaries are some of my personal favorites. While you watch the show, make sure you have a cozy blanket, a warm drink, and the perfect lighting to really embrace the coziness of the winter season approaching us. This is the epitome of taking a real true break. Â
The next idea is to completely clean your room and your closet. Getting rid of old clothing that no longer fits or serves your style anymore is perfect, and you know exactly what to bring back to college post break. You can think of many outfit ideas as you purge your closet, and you can also donate the clothes you get rid of to help those in need. It’s perfect, especially when it’s cold outside and you can’t think of possibly any other thing to do. Plus, it gets you out of bed and into a productive mindset. You can blast music and really soak in the moment. Â
Furthermore, you can spend some time reading a book or even better doing hobbies you love but don’t always have the time to do because of a lot of schoolwork. Play an instrument, go workout, write, or whatever it may be, invest some time into it while you have the time available. Â
You can also host a Friendsgiving or help your family with cooking for Thanksgiving itself. Baking or cooking can be so fun and if you do host a Friendsgiving, seeing what everyone brings to the potluck can be a lot of fun as well. Plus, you can decorate a table or create a banner to add to the fun. Being able to spend time with loved ones and winding down after many exams and assignments is what a break is meant to be. During the day of Thanksgiving you can participate in a Turkey Trot, watch the Macey’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, or watch football. After Thanksgiving, you can decorate for Christmas too, watch a Christmas movie, and further add to the Holiday spirit! Did I mention maybe doing some Black Friday shopping too?Â
Lastly, as much as it hurts to mention, studying for exams when you return to college or beginning to prepare for finals is a good use of time and a very beneficial way to at least spend some time over break doing. You want to ensure you are prepared and have plenty of time before finals. Plus, you won’t want to be as stressed trying to cram when you come back. Â
These are just a few simple things you can do. In reality, simplicity is the key to a wonderful break, though.
