Love is my favorite thing to celebrate, because it’s the easiest thing to celebrate. I grew up loving romance and dreaming of my real-life fairytale.

Did that dream come true? Yes and no.

Let’s be real childhood dreams are chaotic, and I don’t live in a castle. Even though I don’t live in a castle, my girlfriend still makes me feel like the princess that I’ve always wanted to be. I am so grateful for the love I feel from my sweet girlfriend.

Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. I love cheesy cards, sweet candy, romcoms and romance novels. There is something about Valentine’s Day that just makes love feel even stronger.

For the past three years, I have been lucky enough to spend this special day with my lovely girlfriend. Our tradition is to give each other gifts and eat dinner at The Farmhouse in Christiansburg, VA. I love being able to celebrate love with the person I love most in this world. Some days I think to myself that it’s so crazy how I have found someone who loves and cares for me so much. After reading many books and watching many movies, you don’t ever expect to find something so special when you’re not even looking.

I think Valentine’s Day is not only about romantic love, but also about celebrating with family and friends.

This past weekend, I had lunch with my family to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We spent our time eating good food and catching up, because I haven’t really had the chance since school started.

My mom gave my girlfriend and I gift baskets filled with chocolate and other candies. Later this week, we plan on celebrating Valentine’s Day with our friends by making food, eating candy and watching our favorite romcoms. I’m excited to have Galentine’s with my friends because I love them; and friendships deserve to be celebrated as well as romantic relationships.

I feel so incredibly lucky to know what love feels like and to have it in my life.

To the people who feel alone, just know that you are never truly alone. There is always something you can celebrate this year — whether it’s romantic love, familial or friends. Love is always in the air around you; you just have to open your eyes enough to realize it.

Her Campus allows me to tell my stories without being interrupted and it gives me a place to be my true self.
