On November 10th, 2023, the Grammy Nominations were announced and it was made clear that women are dominating the music industry. SZA received several nominations, including “Album of the Year”, “Song of the Year”, “Best R&B Performance”, and more. Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift, Jon Batiste, Billie Eilish, Victoria Monet, and Olivia Rodrigo are among the other nominees. All of the above artists are competing for “Album of the Year”, with Batiste being the only male artist in the category. Out of 24 total nominations, just three were given to the only male artist listed, Batiste. Recording Academy CEO & President, Harvey Mason Jr., expressed his delight over the number of women nominees this year, stating, “Seeing the women nominees this year, and the number of them, was not a surprise but it was something that made me happy.” He hopes that this year’s nominations will inspire the next generation of artists and stated, “Maybe somebody will love what I do one day, or maybe I have an opportunity to express myself or voice my thoughts like that person.”

SZA’s debut album, CTRL, was released in 2017 and marked her entry into the world of fame. Despite not receiving any Grammy nominations, CTRL remained on the Billboard 200 for over 200 weeks. Her dedicated fans eagerly awaited another album, but during the four-year gap between releases, SZA only dropped a few tracks. One of these was “All The Stars,” a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar that was featured in the 2018 Marvel superhero movie Black Panther. In late 2022, SZA finally released her sophomore album, SOS, which quickly climbed the Billboard 100 charts just a week after its release.
