Sweet Chef: The Vegan, Cruelty-Free, Veggie-Loving Skincare of Your Dreams

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Virginia Tech chapter.

As part of the Her Campus x Sweet Chef campaign, I received the Carrot Ginger + Salicylic Acid Pore Cleanser and the Carrot Ginger Blemish Rescue Patches. My skin is an in-between kind of skin; I suffer from both dry and oily skin depending on the day or the weather. This makes buying skincare hard, and finding a good quality skincare I can rely on even harder. When I tell you that these products surprised me, I mean it. I’ve been trying to incorporate all-natural, plant-based ingredients into my meals and hair care, and now I have it in my skincare as well.

Carrot Ginger + Salicylic Acid Pore Cleanser

As soon as I pulled the bottle out of its package, I was eagerly surprised to find its liquid-based formula. Every single over-the-counter cleanser I’ve used before has either been a cream or a gel, so I was interested to put it to work. Because of my breakouts, I was happy to see salicylic acid as an ingredient. I removed the cap from the bottle and pumped the product into my hand, smiling because it came out as a foam, foam like the hand soap you buy from Bath and Body Works. Upon lathering onto my face, the foam started to feel creamy and it smelled truly clean, unlike other cleansers that smell like chemicals. Rinsing off the product was refreshing, leaving my skin feeling oil-free and lighter. My skin didn’t feel tight or dried out, which is what I fear with most cleansers. I dried off my face feeling satisfied and confident that this cleanser was filled with nutrients my skin will love all day long.

Carrot Ginger Blemish Rescue Patches

TikTok has been loving any and all kinds of pimple patches, but let me tell you, these are it. Most patches pull at your skin as you remove them, harshly ripping your skin off, but these are the complete opposite. It was easy to remove and didn’t harm my skin in the process. I even gave one to my boyfriend for one of his breakouts and he was thoroughly surprised as well. It helps spot-treat your breakouts and can even make them disappear overnight; these patches also contain salicylic acid, carrot and ginger to help minimize breakouts and lighten dark spots. My acne scars will love this!

I think my skincare routine has been changed for the better as these products will always be essentials. I’ve seen the difference in my hair after switching to vegan, all-natural ingredients, and I’m excited to see what the difference will be in my skin too. Not to mention Sweet Chef is cruelty-free, so I can rest easy knowing there weren’t any animals used in testing. I think I’m going to go wash my face and drink a green juice now.
