Dear You,

Life is a whirlwind. We start off as pieces of dust and are willed to live by the universe.

There are times in our lives when we feel like we are merely a plaything in the hands of a child. Constantly being pulled in one direction or another, being picked up just to be thrown down again. Forced to grow up too quickly, subjected to trials and tribulations, and pushed to our whits end.

Take a deep breath. You are not alone.

No matter what phase of life you are in, you are never alone. There is always someone out there who is watching your back; someone who wants to make sure you’re eating and more importantly, breathing. You may not have met this person yet, but trust me, they are out there waiting for you.

They are waiting to be able to wake up next to you in the morning. Waiting to see the way your eyes glisten in the sunlight. Waiting to hold your hand while you walk through life.

Take another deep breath. You do not have to hold the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Though at times life may be overwhelming, and it is easy to let ourselves fall prey to taking on not only our problems but the problems of others, it is important to remember that you are only responsible for your own happiness. You do not have to put more stress on yourself than need be; it is not selfish to take care of yourself first.

Take time to learn to love yourself. Take time to stop and appreciate the beauty that surrounds you, even when it feels like life is moving so fast the world may spin off its axis.

Quite literally, stop and smell the roses. Feel the warmth of the sun as it beats down on your skin. Bask in the beauty of the universe. The beauty that is often forgotten as we go through our day-to-day routine.

It is easy to overlook the small things in life that are reminders to keep pushing forward. The car in front of you in the drive-through that pays for your order. The smell of fresh rain. The touch of your loved one.

Take one more deep breath and ask yourself what has reminded you that you are alive. Count the number of unexpected smiles you’ve experienced today.

Laugh. Sing. Cry. Shout at the top of your lungs. Whatever it is you choose to do today, I hope you choose to stay.

Love,

Someone Who Once Thought About Leaving Too
