Is autumn the best season?

I have always been between autumn and summer as my favorite season, with summer recently winning the title. However, as autumn begins and the festivities are finally upon us, I’ve been reconsidering my stance. While I love summer, there are so many things to look forward to this autumn!

1. Activities!

It’s a pretty broad category, but there are so many specific seasonal activities that have to happen in the fall: apple picking, hayrides, pumpkin patches, jack-o-lantern carving, haunted houses, corn maizes, football games, scary movies. I think you get the idea. There are so many fun things to do during autumn, it’s sure to keep you busy every weekend.

2. Weather and seasonal changes!

I’m sure some would disagree, but the change in weather during autumn is the best out of all the seasons. The cool weather is met with jeans with short sleeve shirts or shorts with sweaters, where you don’t feel too hot or too cold. Of course there’s that awkward phase where mornings are 40 degrees and by noon it’s 80, but I’m going to ignore that. Don’t even get me started on the changing colors of the leaves. The entire campus and all the mountains surrounding Virginia Tech adopt a Hokie color pallet.

3. Halloween!

I think this can speak for itself, especially since a lot of the prior activities I mentioned center around spooky season. Just don’t think about the midterms you’ll probably have around this time and you’re solid.

4. Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving ties the season up in a nice little bow. It is the Evermore to the earlier season’s Folklore, the perfect ending to autumn. It’s also a week long break away from school (unless you have to assignments during that time too, if so I am truly sorry).

5. Food!!!!!

Last but defintely not least, the food during this season. From every single pumpkin flavored thing you can think of to reintegrating soup into our diets, fall has the best range of things ever. I have already had at least ten pumpkin chais (made at home) and I am plotting to make chocolate chip pumpkin bread as soon as I can.

So, is autumn the best season? I mean, no matter what I say someone will be upset. But even if you don’t crown it the winner, it certainly makes its case. I implore everyone to take some time for themselves and enjoy everything that autumn has to offer.

Hi! I'm Ava, and I am majoring in English and Creative Writing and minoring in Classical Studies. I love to write, crochet, and listen to music— especially Lizzy McAlpine, Clairo, and Fleetwood Mac. A few of my absolute favorite places to be are a café, the beach, or outside on a sunny day. HerCampus is the perfect opportunity to build an invaluable community of not just women, but other writers and artists.
