Semesters are in full swing and the last thing any of us are thinking about is classes
for next semester. But, as you all know, course request opened on Tuesday, October
23. If you guys are anything like me you spend hours perfecting your schedule. No
one wants those dreaded 8 AMs. For anyone out there who hasn’t figured it out,
there are several ways you can get the schedule you want.

1) Do course request! I know this sounds really simple, but I know plenty of people
who have forgotten and ended up getting screwed big time. Make sure you request
the times and professors you most want! Of course you aren’t guaranteed to get
those times or professors, but if you don’t complete course request you definitely
won’t get them.

2) Get on drop/add the second it opens. I can personally vouch for this one. If you
don’t necessarily get the class you wanted, getting on drop/add as soon as it opens
is really helpful. A lot of students are in the same boat as you and a lot of times
someone will end up dropping the class you need. Trust me, hanging around until
the midnight open time is totally worth it.

3) Check drop/add often! Okay, so you didn’t get the class you wanted through
course request and no one dropped it at midnight. That doesn’t mean you should
give up hope just yet. People are constantly dropping and adding different classes,
even into the first week of school. If you really want to get rid of that 8 AM or that
horrible professor, it is still possible. Check drop/add right up until classes begin
and you may just find yourself in the class you wanted.

4) If all of the above fails, try to force add the class. If there really isn’t any extra
space this probably won’t work, but sometimes professors will force add you if
there are some extra seats even if the class says full on the timetable. This obviously
isn’t the most preferable route, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!

Following these steps will definitely help you get the schedule you want. Sometimes
you will get stuck in a class you don’t want to be in, but by doing these things you
can definitely fix most of your schedule issues. Good luck with course request and
drop/add, Hokies!
