Chapter Collaboration: Our Team’s Favorite Holiday Music

The holidays are on their way and our team is getting into the spirit. We asked our chapter for their favorite Christmas tunes and why, and here’s what they had to say. Be sure to follow the Spotify playlist below to enjoy our team’s holiday favorites!

1. Please Come Home for Christmas – Eagles

This is a sad Christmas song, but I love it regardless. It has a catchy melody and I find it to be an easy song to get stuck in my head. I am always singing this with family when I go home for the holidays.

2. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) – Darlene Love

I was watching the movie Mistletones with my whole family and I heard this song at the very end of the movie and now my sister and I both love it and listen to it together all the time.

3. This Christmas – Chris Brown

A great song about a typical family as they gather together; and a great song that is catchy and sung by a young and dreamy 18 year-old Chris Brown. It’s a great song that’s really catchy and makes you feel like Christmas is right around the corner.

4. Winter Things – Ariana Grande

This is honestly the cutest Christmas song ever. One, because Ariana Grande sings it, and two, because it’s like no other Christmas song out there. It’s so catchy, lighthearted and oh, did I mention cute?

5. Last Christmas – WHAM!

Not the most spirited Christmas song, I know but George Michael’s voice is absolutely amazing making this a Christmas bop. I always love listening to it with friends. Artists have since sung covers of this classic, but WHAM!’s will always be my favorite.

6. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – Sam Smith

This is one of my favorite covers of a song! Every time I hear it, I can see myself sitting near our  fireplace, drinking hot chocolate, with snow falling all around. His voice is so soothing, making this song a must listen to this break!

7. Oh Santa! – Mariah Carey

This song reminds me of my days in middle school choir, but more specifically our holiday concerts. Our chorus director decided to switch things up a little bit and do a more current pop song and this was the one she chose. She taught it to us way too late so, needless to say, it wasn’t the best rendition of the song you’ll ever hear. However, it always brings back good, festive memories when I listen to this song. Oh, and, if you’re wondering, I still sing it as badly as I did back then.

8. Baby It’s Cold Outside – Idina Menzel and Michael Bublé

This song just makes me happy over all, but as a duet with Idina Menzel and Michael Bublé, wow it gives me chills. Their voices mesh so well together and you can just picture them singing together. This is definitely one of those Christmas songs I always break out into song with!

9. Last Christmas – WHAM!

I honestly like any version of this song, but WHAM! has obviously the best one. It’s kinda depressing but it’s still arguably one of the most iconic songs for the holiday season. And honestly it’s one of the few songs that can make you feel a nice balance of happy and bittersweet, which kind of describes the holiday season for me. It’s a time where we are moving on to a new year with excitement but also looking back on all the memories of a year gone by.

10. White Christmas – Bing Crosby

Anything this man put out was a straight bop. He’s a soulful angel that walked upon this Earth. He’s one of the top classical artists for the Christmas season so you honestly can’t go wrong with any piece from him. Also the movie White Christmas is my favorite holiday movie so I of course recommend that classic.

11. Santa’s Coming for Us – Sia

My 2 favorite things- holiday music and Sia- decided to merge last year and my heart has been full ever since! Her entire album is filled with original holiday music, and ranges from straight bops to soulful ballads. Sia trades in her iconic straightened black & white hairstyle for some tight red & green curls, representing her transition from chart-topping pop music to holiday season vibes all winter long!

12. Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee

You can’t help but dance and sing to this song, but it is still a classic! When I hear this song I picture decorating my Christmas tree every year and having Christmas cookies, which are the best cookies no question. This song embodies the fun spirit of Christmas!

13. It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year – Andy Williams

There is literally no debate, this is not only the anthem for the holidays, but for winter in general! The most wonderful time of the year when you a) get to enjoy thanksgiving, b) you get to spend time with family and friends and c) you finally end the happiest time of the year with reflection as you head into the new year with new hopes and goals. For me, whenever I hear this song, I get instant glee and excitement for all of the beautiful things there are to come and to be thankful for in December.

14. Mistletoe – Justin Bieber

This was middle school me’s go to Christmas banger and tbh it still is! Justin made this Christmas album in the early stages of his career and still has a bit of a younger voice. Younger me was absolutely in love with JB but who wasn’t? The music video was adorable and made every young girl wish for a boyfriend during the holidays.

Just a funky lil girl trying to put my thoughts into relatable words!!! I've had the dream of being Anne Hathaway's character in Devil Wears Prada since I was like three. Maybe without being someone's bitch, but you know, everyone has to start somewhere.
