Finals are over, papers are submitted, alarms are turned off, you know what this means: time to binge-watch. While there’s no harm in finishing the shows you’ve already started, or watching the current TV trends, nothing says winter break like diving into a new show. Here is a compilation of some of my favorite TV underdogs:

  1. “Saved By The Bell”- Hulu

First things first, Zack Morris. Other than starring the love of my life, this show has everything your millennial heart has ever wanted: killer fashion, a feminist icon, retro humor. I’ll be honest, early 90’s high school sitcoms don’t offer the most riveting content, but this throwback will quickly become your guilty pleasure.

    2.  “Awkward.”- Hulu

When I found out that every season of “Awkward.” was on Hulu, I spent an entire week reliving my 2012 fantasies. This show revolves around a dorky teenager who tries to juggle bullies, boys, and blogging, under the watchful care of her clueless parents. I’ll try to save you from a cringey wikipedia summary, but only if you promise to watch it.

    3. “Scrubs”- Hulu

Imagine a mixture of Grey’s Anatomy and The Office. I realize that Grey’s will always be America’s sweetheart, but nothing’s better than dry humor, an ER, and Zach Braff monologues.

    4. “One Day at a Time”- Netflix

I can safely assume that you’ve never seen the original “One Day at a Time with Valerie Bertinelli”; but even if you have, this irresistible Cuban-American remake is definitely worth a binge. After all, Rita Moreno is an absolute queen.

    5. “Jane the Virgin”- Netflix

I have never in my life been so utterly captivated by a TV show plot. Jane the Virgin is an American telenovela that I did not know I needed, and absolutely cannot live without. Drama, action, romance, female empowerment, comedy, confusion, what more can a girl need?

    6. “Sherlock”- Netflix

This one is for all my literature loving, crime show addicted ladies. A young, quirky Benedict Cumberbatch stars in this modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes. I know, there are thousands of Holmes reenactments in the world of TV; however, this one is by far the best.

    7. “Glee”- Netflix/ Hulu

I wouldn’t dare call this timeless collection of art underrated, but rather, currently overlooked. I am planning a Glee Cast reunion for the reception of my wedding. You’re all invited.

    8. “The Carrie Diaries”- Netflix

I don’t know about you guys, but there is nothing I love more than a prequel. This show highlights the life of pre-”Sex in the City” Carrie Bradshaw. Set in the glitz and glam of the 80s, we get to see a young style icon, and feminist queen in the making. The only gut-wrenching pitfall: there are only two seasons. Low blow, The CW.

Let the bingeing begin. You’re welcome.

Just a funky lil girl trying to put my thoughts into relatable words!!! I've had the dream of being Anne Hathaway's character in Devil Wears Prada since I was like three. Maybe without being someone's bitch, but you know, everyone has to start somewhere.
