During my freshman year, I walked around Gobblerfest, overwhelmed by the number of tents and signs surrounding me. I felt like signing up for everything. I walked back to my dorm with flyers, shirts, and excitement about the fall semester and the people I would meet. Time has flown by, and over the past two years, I have been a part of various organizations around campus. I met most of my closest friends at club events, and every organization has been extremely welcoming. Here are some clubs around campus for you to check out this fall. I have also included each organization’s Instagram, which you can follow for more information.

The Women’s Network (@thewomensnetwork_virginiatech)

The Women’s Network is a professional networking organization for women. The organization hosts important events focusing on internships, job opportunities, DEI workshops, and so much more. The team is welcoming of all women and empowers their members to go after career opportunities. I am really glad I joined this organization my freshman year, as it provided me with the opportunity to meet many incredible women and attend informative events over the past year. You will find an incredible support system and gain insight into crucial career skills through this organization.

Moss Arts Center Ambassadors (@mac_ambassadoratvt)

The Moss Arts Center Ambassadors work to connect various cultural organizations across the VT campus. You can develop your skills in leadership, collaboration, communication, and event planning. By becoming an ambassador, you also gain access to free tickets to MAC events, backstage tours, artist meet and greets, and private receptions with MAC donors. Being a MAC Ambassador is a great way to network with peers and guests, and provides you with numerous professional opportunities. I joined this organization my sophomore year, and it has been a great experience.

Her Campus At Virginia Tech (@hercampusvirginiatech)

If you’re reading this article, you probably have a general idea of what HCVT is. Her Campus at Virginia Tech is an online magazine that serves as a place for women to stay informed about what is happening around campus and reflects the student community at Virginia Tech. They post content on style, beauty, wellness, lifestyle, career, and so much more. You can apply for any of the teams focusing on social media, events, writing, or editing. If you enjoy writing as much as I do, you should definitely consider joining the team.

Bollywood Club (@bollywoodclub_vt)

Whether you’re a die-hard fan of Bollywood or simply curious to explore a new culture, you might be interested in joining Bollywood Club. This club welcomes students from all backgrounds and celebrates the captivating music, dance and vibrant culture present in Indian movies. You can experience the exciting world of Bollywood through karaoke, food, and so much more. There are so many amazing movies to see and events for you to be a part of. You should definitely check out the Bollywood Club at Gobblerfest.

WUVT (@wuvt)

WUVT is Virginia Tech’s student-run radio station. They have a large team of student DJs, artists, writers, and musicians. You get the choice to sign up for whichever team you are interested in. WUVT promotes a wide variety of music on their station, and being a part of the team is so much fun. They have a large collection of CDs and record disks with all genres of music. While I was a DJ, I was able to host my own show on-air, and it gave me the opportunity to explore new music and artists.

Even though I only listed five organizations, there are many other clubs for you to find out there. College is all about exploring new interests and GobblerConnect can bring you one step closer to finding friends and making new connections. The next four years are going to fly by, so don’t be afraid to try something new and step out of your comfort zone. While classes do come first, becoming more involved around campus can help you find fun opportunities to learn more about yourself and make new friends. I am so excited to see you all at Gobblerfest on September 1st.
