Gift giving is easily the most stressful part of the holidays. Traveling, cooking, decorating can be a hassle, but they are no-strings-attached tasks. Sure, someone may not like your stuffing, but at the end of the day that doesn’t matter (it’s not like they’re going to tell you). Gift giving on the other hand…the same cannot be said. I’m sure most of you know someone who cannot seem to get their nose out of a book and maybe that person is yourself or maybe it’s your best friend. If it’s yourself, keep reading because you may just find something you would like to put on your list this year, and if you’re frantically shopping for another book lover, you’ve landed in the right place. Here are 5 books that are the perfect gift for bookworms this holiday season.

1. I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

This is my personal favorite. Jennette McCurdy writes with a voice that is hard to ignore; once you pick it up, it is not easily put down. Though non-fiction, the book is encaptivating and can be enjoyed by fiction lovers as well. It is not your run-of-the-mill memoir but instead reads as a story. Jennette McCurdy played an important role in many of our childhoods, and this book shows a side that is often hidden from the limelight; it’s a painfully inspiring story. With this being said, the book does contain descriptions that should be saved for a more mature audience.

2. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

It’s safe to say, you and your book lover both have probably read this for at least one English class. However, that is not without reason as it is a classic. This classic spins a tale of not only a coming of age story, but as well sheds light on racism and prejudice. It is an amazing choice for classic lovers as well as most other readers. To add more of a gift element, you can opt for the collector’s edition. This is the perfect addition to any library, and allows the gift recipient to have a ‘clean’ copy of the novel.

3. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

Booktok has been swarming with Colleen Hoover book recommendations this year. Though I personally do not enjoy most of her books, a lot of people do. Because of this, I have chosen to include one of her more popular books in this gift guide. It Ends With Us is a good choice for anyone who is just getting back into reading. It would also be a good gift for friends who love romance novels. It plays out much like a movie would and is an easy read.

4. Ring by Koji Suzuki

This is a great choice for your friends that love all things horror. It is spine-chilling and full of suspense. It is not a horror novel in the traditional ghost and vampires sense, nor is it gory. It is just enough suspense to work as a gift for mystery lovers as well. It is the first novel in the Ring series, but it can be read as a stand alone book. This is one of my favorite reads of the year and many of my friends share the same sentiment.

5. A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole

This book was actually gifted to me earlier this year, and though it is different from what I usually read, it turned out to be one of the funniest books I’ve come across. It’s a read full of belly laughs and secondhand embarrassment. It spins the tale of a man who believes himself to be well-educated, but is in fact, quite the opposite; he finds himself on many strange adventures and will leave readers in tears (from laughing) from the first chapter. It is the perfect gift for your friends who read for comedic relief.

In this gift guide for readers, I have included an assortment of different genres that can satisfy many different book lovers. I wish you a happy shopping and hope your friends enjoy everything they are gifted this holiday season.
