In the words of my favorite movie character Cady Heron, “In Girl World, Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut, and no other girls can say anything else about it.” If you’re like me and you don’t find partying and dressing up to be as fun as running around with friends collecting as much candy as possible like you did when you were a kid, then maybe you’ll enjoy some of these ideas for what to do on Halloween, if you’re not going to a party.

Have a scary movie marathon
I personally enjoy the Scary Movie series but any spooky movies could work. The classics like Hocus Pocus, Friday the 13th, Chucky, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil and the Paranormal Activity series are always good choices for a long night of scary movies and popcorn.

Go trick-or-treating
Yes, I said it. Go trick-or-treating. Go with some friends, dress up like you did when you were little and see how much candy you can score before people start saying you’re too old to be out asking for candy.

Throw a cookie party!
Pick a few cute DIY halloween cookies from Pinterest and set out stations. Have people rotate through the stations and at the end vote on who made the cutest cookies (unless you eat them all before)! A Cookie Monster plushy and a Visa gift card would be an easy and adorable prize for the master of the DIY cookies.

Scare the trick-or-treaters!
If you’re brave enough to face the constant barrage of small children begging for candy at your door, then you should at least have some fun with it. I remember countless years of my childhood where I would end up screaming and running from houses where the owners would sit or stand on the porch in their costumes waiting to scare whoever got close enough. Grab a chair, sit and wait, and by the end of the night you could be known for having the scariest house on the block.

Go to a scary maze or haunted house!
If you’re anything like me and you hate being scared then this may not be the best option, but I always suggest doing it at least once in your life. Take a friend who won’t mind you screaming and clinging to them for dear life, and you’ll be fine. Plus, it’s always good to remember that they can scare you, but they can’t intentionally touch you so there will always be space to run away if you need to.
