I’m about to tell you something you really need to hear. Make yourself a cake. Right now!

“What, why?” you might ask. Maybe you don’t have the right ingredients. Maybe you are tired, or you have a lot of homework. Whatever the excuse is, I don’t wanna hear it, because instead, I’m going to convince you why making a cake right now is absolutely necessary.

First, cake is so yummy. Respectfully, I don’t trust people who don’t like cake. I used to get a minimum of one slice of cake every time I went to the dining hall, so I feel like I could be considered a cake connoisseur, but I digress. You deserve to have a yummy little treat right now, so while you’re on your way to the store you better start brainstorming which flavor is calling your name.

Second, making a cake is so much fun. Of course, you will need to play some music- whatever the vibe is for you at the moment. That random playlist you saw on TikTok? Sad Taylor Swift songs? Doesn’t matter, but you need to get the tunes bumping.

Another super fun part about making a cake is getting into uniform. Personally, I like a big, old, ratty T-shirt that I can get covered in flour and not care. Fun socks (especially if they are on theme) are also required. If you have an apron, bonus points!!

Now that we’ve set the scene, it’s time to make that cake. I hope you have sturdy mixing bowls and a good ol’ whisk because another fantastic part about making a cake is that you’re going to get out all your anger, stress, and worries and mix it up in that bowl. Once it’s in the oven, let all those negative emotions melt away and get excited about your beautiful cake baking to perfection.

Moving on to what I believe is the best part of the process- the decorating!! Here, you need to be creative. The only skill you need to be an artist is believing that you are one, so consult Pinterest for some design inspiration and get decorating. While you’re at it, you should probably take a picture of your masterpiece from at least 5 different angles and maybe even a video so you can remember it forever.

Finally… time to EAT!! Eat it with your hands, eat it with a fork, spoon, I’m not going to judge you. The only rule is that you have to eat the first bite suuuuuper slowly, really savor it. Admire all your hard work and enjoy the fun time you had making this cake, even if you only did it mentally. Realize how much better you feel now and the next time you are thinking about cake, just make one! You can thank me later.
