Five Reasons Why Being A Sophomore at Nova Rocks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Villanova chapter.

For everyone else at Nova coming back to school can be hard. Freshman are anxious and nervous about their first years as Wildcats, seniors are sad and upset about their last years as Wildcats, and juniors might not even be returning to campus if they’re studying abroad for the semester. But returning to campus as a sophomore is the best. Here are five reasons why being a sophomore at Nova rocks.

1. You know the school. As a freshman if someone told you to meet them at Old Falvey you would have no idea what they meant. And we all know we’ve been late to class because we didn’t know the fastest way to get from Garey to Bartley. But now that you’ve been at Nova for a whole year, you’ve got the lay of the land down. You are also keen on random facts about Nova like at Belle Air you can’t get meals between certain times of the day, you can buy 12 cookies for a meal, and they have the best green beans. You also know that everyone will give you a dirty look if you wear leggings and a t-shirt one day (but you will still do it anyway), and you know they almost always give out free stuff by the Oreo. Being a sophomore rocks because you know so much more than you did as a freshman.

2. You live on main campus. Of course south campus, west campus, or off campus housing all have their perks, but nothing beats being on main campus. The heat filled walks to class in the summer or the frigid infused hikes in the winter are the least of your worries on main campus. Whether you’re in Fedigan or in the Quad, the walk the classes are significantly shorter anywhere on main campus. Another perk of being on main campus is being so close to all of the best food. Just a short distance from your dorm you can find Café Nova, Connelly, and for those lucky ones with the upgrade, the Exchange. Living on main campus is awesome because it’s in the best location for everything – classes, food, the mailroom, the bookstore, and of course, pictures by the Oreo!

3. You actually like your roommate this year. As a freshman having a random roommate can be pretty scary. You could get stuck with a loud snorer, an obnoxious chewer, or a weird laugher. You may even have it worse with a roommate that never gets out of bed or one that wakes you up every night stumbling home at odd hours. Every day you envied the girls down the hall that got perfectly matched up together thinking, why didn’t I get that? But as a sophomore there is no need to worry about that. After searching for the ideal friend to make your roommate you couldn’t be happier. Sophomore year will be full of peace, bliss, and sharing Camp Co every night. You will be grateful you got to pick your roommate this year and thankful for all of the comfort in sharing everything from your blowdryer to your pint of Ben & Jerry’s.

4. You know what to expect from class. As a little freshman in ACS you definitely read every single night, and didn’t procrastinate at all. But now that you’re a sophomore you know what classes need more attention. You also figured out how to navigate “rate my professor” and you will definitely know that you should pick your classes based on who gets the best ratings. By sophomore year you will also have your sleep and study patterns down. You will know that you love early classes because that means you will be done for the day or maybe you like late classes so you can sleep in or go to the gym in the morning. Either way, as a sophomore you know yourself better academically, and this will help you maintain those awesome grades.

5. Your friend group is solid. The first day of college you may have come in knowing no one or maybe just those two random kids from your high school. You definitely didn’t have a solid friend group, but that’s all you wanted. And as a junior maybe all of your friends are studying abroad in different countries, and you’re lost without them. That’s why sophomore year is a great one at Nova. You finally have your solid group of friends that will stick with you no matter what. You have a quality groupchat formed, a good bunch that you can dance with at the Courts, and girls that will never make you question your decision to get late night at Connelly.
