Over the past few years, we thought we’d seen it all when it comes to internet fashion trends. For this, we get to thank social media giants like Instagram and Twitter for keeping us up to date on the changing fashion trends, aesthetics and all things makeup. Of all of the trends to hit social media and the web recently, this one is probably the worst and most unappealing yet:

WAVY BROWS.

I just want to know who started this trend. The fact that it’s steadily gaining popularity is interesting to me, to say the least. They’ve even made a Snapchat filer that creates the wavy brow effect, which is funny because that’s where it looks like it originated from.

Some people even do this to their brows via visual effects, which is the definition of doing the most. Why waste that extra time doing something to your brows that in no way looks natural? It just seems like unnecessary extra work and the person could be using their time to do more productive things.

So the bottom line is: NO. Just no. What about this trend could possibly be considered cute? When people do this, it reminds me of someone who may have just learned how to use Photoshop and is playing with the ripple effect. It also strongly resembles this:

Remember dancing Squidward from the Krusty Krab talent show episode of Spongebob Squarepants? Enough said.

Leave this trend behind, please. There are way better ones out there that actually enhance your look. Such as the “Boy Brow” look from Glossier, for example.

This look brings about a soft, fashionable tomboy approach to eyebrows. Instead of hairs being perfectly in line, they create a fresh, brushed-up look that’s edgy and cute.

Take notes, everyone! No photo editing needed, or any meticulous upkeep of your brows to create something that looks the complete opposite of natural.

In short, this new trend does more harm than good. However, it does provide a good laugh for those of us who aren’t curious enough to try it on ourselves!

Brezaja is a sophomore studying film in the School of the Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University. When not writing articles for Her Campus at VCU, you can usually find them endlessly browsing Netflix or checking social media, mostly Instagram and Twitter. They try to be as open-minded as possible, and don't mind having conversations with others about social issues. After college, they dream of being an art director for films.
Keziah is a writer for Her Campus. She is majoring in Fashion Design with a minor in Fashion Merchandising. HCXO!
