Time management hasn’t been my friend since my sophomore year of high school. Freshman year, I was on point; I had an agenda, a schedule and around three to do lists. I always stuck to my schedule and planner and would always get everything I needed to get done on time before doing anything else. As the years progressed, my time management has gotten worse and worse.
Today, I still have a planner, I even had three last semester, yet somehow still forgot to do some assignments.
As time has gone on, I have gotten better at time management for someone who is not the best with it, so here are my tips:
Keeping a planner is key. Yeah, you might not look at it, but you’re 30 times more likely to remember something if you write it down. So, write it down so that you know it’s there. Do not rely on remembering important or not-so-important dates, because chances are you will forget.
Setting alarms is also a huge help like I said before, you will forget to do things, but setting a timer will be sure to get your attention and make you aware of what needs to get done.
My most coveted tip is to make a list! Make a list of household tasks that need to be completed, make a list of school work that needs to be memorized, test dates, papers due and any other things that need to get done during the day. Hey, I even put “gym grind” on my lists just to remind myself to go to the gym every other day. Making lists will help you feel organized and at ease with your seemingly not-so-busy schedule.
Lastly, waking up early and starting your day has been the most efficient time management skill I have learned. Throughout the day we become tired and lazy, so starting your day on the right foot is essential. I especially enjoy going to bed early knowing I have completed everything I needed to complete that day and then waking up the next day to get an early start to my morning and ease into the day is the best. It’s a little hard to get adjust to, like all of these tips in this article, but once done they’re extremely beneficial in the long run.
