Survive College With Fabulous Hair (In Three Minutes or Less)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Between classes, work, and extracurriculars, a cute hairdo is often at the bottom of a collegiette’s “to-do” lists. It can be easy to settle for a messy bun—however here is your cheat-sheet for gorgeous lazy-day hair that will let you look trendy but only take you a few minutes to conquer. The best part is none of them require a dreadfully time-consuming washing and drying routine!

Add a Headband to Your Messy Bun/Ponytail:
Add a little dazzle to your messy bun or ponytail. A sparkly or printed headband can make a messy hairdo look classy when you’re in a hurry.

Quick Side Braid:
This hairstyle has become increasingly trendy on campus. It may look quite complicated—but it’s actually very simple! All you do is take a small section of your hair and French braid it. Starting from the part of your hair, braid the small section down to your ear, or wherever you desire. Then, fasten it down with a bobby pin or some sort of clip. This side braid looks great in up-dos, or even with your hair down. Not a pro at French braiding? Try simply twisting the sectioned hair. It still has the same effect as the braid, but is a little easier to accomplish!

The Perfect Products:
One hair product that is essential to lazy hair days is dry shampoo. We all know if we don’t wash our hair, it might begin to look oily. This powder spray absorbs the oil in your hair, making it look good as new—as if you just washed and dried it. This product is great for girls who have straight or straightened hair. If you’re a girl on the go, this product is a great investment!

Another product that is great for lazy hair days is Garnier Fructis Style Curl Calm Down Anti-Frizz Cream. This product is a good investment for ladies with curly or wavy hair. It smoothes down the “bed-head” tangles that plagues curls after sleeping. Make your curls look fresh and luscious without even washing your hair for only $4.29 at most drugstores!

Health Tip:
Skipping your daily hair washing and drying routine is not only a time saver, but it is also beneficial to your hair health. In “Is it Healthier to Skip Washing Your Hair?” from the Huffington Post, it states shampooing your hair every day can wash away oils that make your hair naturally soft. This means the strands will be more likely to break. It’s actually a benefit to skip washing your hair for a day or two—especially if you can still look great with these fast and easy styles and products!
