Currently, we are all being told to stay home for an unknown amount of time. This is causing stress, panic, anxiety and many other negative side effects. While there are lots of cons to this, I like to look at the pros, which there are surprisingly a lot of. If you use some creativity, you can come up with tons of pros that come with this crazy and unexpected situation. Here, I’ve written my top five pros of being stuck at home.

Catch Up On Hobbies (Or Create New Ones!)

What better time than the present to catch up on your favorite hobbies or to create new ones? Whether you love sewing, writing or any of the thousands of hobbies that exist, now is the time to do them! While living on campus, it can be hard to find time to do the hobbies that you love. Between classes and homework, free time may not exist. So, while you are stuck at home with lots of extra time, it’s a great time for hobbies!

Spend Time With The Fam

Living on campus means, for most people, that you aren’t seeing your family weekly or maybe even monthly. But since you are probably back home, chilling in your childhood bedroom, it’s a perfect opportunity to catch up with your family. If you want, there are many ways to spend time with your family other than just watching TV in the same room. You can have nightly dinners together, play a round of cards, make a family Tik Tock or play some old games from your childhood.

Expand Your Cooking Skills

A dorm room isn’t the best place to learn how to cook, and neither is a college apartment when you are limited on time. Now that you are home for a while, it’s the perfect time to learn how to cook good meals or expand on your go-to recipes. Find a cookbook and get cooking!

Get Outside

Planting a garden, doing yard work or just reading on the porch are all easy ways to get some fresh air. Take a break from your phone and/or laptop in order to give your brain a break. It isn’t good to be cooped up in the house 24/7, so make time each day to get outside and into nature.

Start Practicing Self-Care

Self-care is an essential part of everyone’s life. Whether it’s taking an online yoga class or taking some time to be alone, it’s an important practice. Take this opportunity to get into good self-care habits like reading the Bible, practicing meditation or exercising. Figure out what kind of self-care you need and then create a routine so that you are doing these things daily!

Being at home for the rest of the semester may not be an ideal situation and it may be devastating to some. But, staying positive is key during this confusing and stressful time. Make sure you are keeping up with the news, reading correct information and most importantly, find the pros to this crazy situation! Sending love to you all!
