My Thoughts on the Presidential Debate While Under the Influence

Like most of you, I watched the presidential debate on Tuesday. However, I was kind of under the influence while watching it. I was with my roommates and two of our friends. A couple of people within the group were very much against watching it, so I did not watch the entire thing. It felt like I was watching a parody, so naturally, I was laughing. The best part of the whole debate is when Trump randomly stated that he saved football, which did not correlate to the conversation at all. It had me dying of laughter for a couple of minutes. Then, the unsettling reality set in that this disgusting, disrespectful man is our president. He is the face of our country, which is how other countries see us. They can only assume we are just as rude and disrespectful as Donald Trump. It was frankly quite embarrassing, and I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry while watching it. Joe Biden appeared to hold it a little bit better than Trump did, but it still seemed like a screaming match between two little kids. This doesn’t really fare well with the future of our country.

On the bright side, the debate had convinced me that I should vote for Joe Biden over Howie Hawkins, the Green Party candidate. Although I was a little out of it, I really sympathized with Biden, especially when Trump brought up his sons. One of which was a veteran and died of cancer and the other is an individual who is recovering from addiction. I do not identify with the Democratic Party or necessarily like Joe Biden as a candidate, but Donald Trump’s behavior was horrendous. However, I’m not excusing Joe Biden’s alleged misconduct or the racist laws he enacted. In addition, I also never ever want to hear about unprofessionalism again in my life after the president acted like that. The president looking down on the former vice president for wearing a mask during a pandemic was yet another unforgivable act done by Trump. Especially when the next day, Donald and Melania Trump got diagnosed with COVID-19, this means he risked getting so many others sick, but this does seem like karma. I hope it causes more people to start wearing masks, though.

In conclusion, this debate just helped me conclude that our president is a terrible person, and I should use my vote to get him out of the White House. Moreover, it made me decide to settle for Biden. I was rooting for Bernie Sanders, and Howie Hawkins from the Green Party was the next best. However, Joe Biden gained my sympathy, and I realized my disdain for our current president. I will not lie; I really hope this next debate is an actual debate and not a childish argument. Also, I really hope they pick a better moderator. I might have been under the influence, but I could still recognize that he was not moderating anything. That “debate” got entirely way too wild and heated.
