Megan Thee Stallion Concert at Virginia Tech: My Review and Experience

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Megan Thee Stallion is a 24-year-old rapper who has gained quick popularity within the past couple of years. Everyone went wild over her summer hit single “Hot Girl Summer” and other tracks off of her 2019 album “Fever.” Currently, she is absolutely dominating the rap game and it’s simply ravishing to see! Not only is she unabashedly herself, she empowers women in a field dominated by men who are sometimes intimidated by powerful women.

That is why when I heard Megan Thee Stallion was going to perform at Virginia Tech on Oct. 18, I was stoked. I had a feeling I’d get a text from Chera (my best friend) asking if I would want to come up to hang with her and see Megan live. Then that very thing happened. I got the invite and lucky me, the concert was only $15!

The day came around and it was time for me to head to Blacksburg from Richmond. This easy, scenic drive would lead me to see my best friend and of course Queen Megan! We entered the venue, a Virginia Tech hall that was akin to a super fancy high school auditorium. Around me were a bunch of “hot girls” ready to see Megan and get crazy. We got seats in the back, but I was happily surprised that we still had a pretty good view of the stage.

When the announcer came on, that is when the chaos began. All us college kids began moving swiftly to the front of the stage, disregarding the seats we had all ended up with. The crowd had good energy and I was ready to dance and let loose. I did just that.

After Key Glock had been on for a while, I realized there were policemen with stern looks walking up and down the aisles to monitor what was happening in a curious way. Key Glock’s set ended and the announcer then told everyone we had to go back to our seats or they would shut down the event. Mood killer! Were we in high school or what?

The room then erupted with the sounds chatter and people bustling about. Many of us just sat where we were having shifted so much from our original seats.  I watched people quickly rush around the room to get seats, people standing awkwardly by full rows and people trying to talk to the police to get them to reason with them.

We sat in annoyed silence for about 15 minutes and the room was still full of people standing and walking around. Thankfully, they eventually just gave up and it was time for the queen, Megan, to show us her stuff.

Duh, we know Megan is talented, beautiful and hot, but seeing her in person was otherworldly. Her live rapping skills were off the chart and she never missed a beat. Her voice was clear, concise and bold. Every few minutes she’d stop rapping to twerk and dance and the crowd, myself included, was entranced.

She was warm and hilarious, cracking jokes and giving compliments, calling us hot girls. She threw shade at the police for not letting fans get on the stage with her, something she loves to do. My favorite thing that happened at the concert was Megan said “We got some college-educated p*ssy in here!” and the crowd replied in happy, approving screams.

Though the concert was delayed, and almost hijacked, it ended up being saved by the grace of Megan.
