Love, Your Inner Voice

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Dear strong and beautiful woman,

I’m your inner voice. We talk often, but sometimes it’s hard for you to hear my voice amidst all the other voices in the world. There are so many lies that the world wants you to believe, but I want to remind you of the truth you know deep down. I know that it can be hard to remind yourself of these things often, but I just want you to remember that I’m here for you. In the times of stress, anxiety or fear, take a moment to quiet yourself and listen to your inner voice and let me remind you of the truth you know deep inside.

I know that sometimes you feel like you’re not good enough. You compare yourself to other girls and realize that you’re not skinny enough, not smart enough or not pretty enough. This, dear one, is a lie. You are wonderful and perfect just the way you are, flaws and all. There are people in your life who love you unconditionally, no matter how many mistakes you make or how many insecurities you have. This is because these people see you for who you truly are- a beautiful woman who works hard and never gives up. When the world tells you that you’re nothing, I tell you that you are so loved and that you are enough.

Sometimes it feels like the only thing left to do is to give up, but that’s not true. Keeping pushing, keep grinding, keep slaying. Look at your track record- it shows that you’ve survived 100% of everything you’ve been through so far! In the words of Winnie the Pooh, “You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” Anything that you’re going through right now, you can get through it, and when it feels like you’ve already done everything in your power, then it’s just time to step back and have fun! You deserve it girl!

Lastly, I want to remind you that you are meant for greatness. It’s so easy to settle for what’s easy or what’s convenient, but for someone who works as hard as you, is as kind and driven as you, and tries to be brave and selfless as much as you, you deserve the absolute best. Don’t waste your time with people who don’t recognize this in you. Whether it be a job, a friend, a guy, or a community, if they don’t build you up then they don’t deserve to be in your life. Be brave enough to expect the best.

There is so much more I want to tell you, but you have to learn to listen to me more often. I know it is not easy to hear me sometimes, but know that I am also always here. Take a deep breath, go for a walk, do whatever you need to do to get your mind away from the lies of the world and to listen to me. I’m always here if you need me, and I’m always rooting for you, baby girl.

Love,

Your Inner Voice
