A Love Letter to My Coworkers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

To the wonderful people I work with every day,

First off, let me just start by saying how glad I am to know you. When I first started this job, I was terrified. I’m not good with change, nor am I the most comfortable when meeting new people, so coming into an office as a newcomer into an already tight-knit group of people was a little daunting. But, you all were amazingly welcoming. I never once felt out of place or uncomfortable, and while I didn’t exactly feel like your best friend at first (as to be expected – that kind of relationship takes time!), you accepted me and were so, so kind.

Now, though, I couldn’t imagine my life without you. I love the dynamic that we have built, and I always look forward to my time in the office because of you. Also, you are a hilarious, silly group of people and I am constantly entertained every time I am around you. Who else gets to work somewhere where we read to each other, play games and have the occasional sing along? It’s the best. You’re the best. AH.

I have worked a few jobs in the past, and while I have grown because of and enjoyed each of them, this job in particular is special. As the saying goes, “time flies when you’re having fun,” and boy do I have fun with you people. You understand my weird references, appreciate my dumb jokes, and just grin and bear it when I eat mac and cheese for lunch every single day. How I love you, my sweet, non-judgemental angels.

As our staff has grown, I am so thankful that we haven’t lost any of our comradery. On the contrary, we’ve gained so much. Each new hire makes the dynamic better and adds a new, more fun and more lovely personality to the mix. I feel like I have a whole new friend group to bond with, and as someone who has always found it difficult to keep a solid group of friends, that is really special to me. Thank you all for being so sweet!

In general in today’s society, it seems like very few people are happy in the workplace. I am certainly not without a few begrudging days now and again, but I say this genuinely – I am so glad that I applied and was hired to work alongside you. For every stressful day that I might have, ten happy, worthwhile ones make up for it. You, my beautiful coworkers, have created an environment that I genuinely do love to be in, and I am forever grateful to you for it.

As I write this on a Friday, I cannot wait to see you on Monday morning, bright and early. As an extreme night owl and avid opposer to being a morning person, you know that I must think you’re pretty great if I’m getting up before 10 a.m. to see you. Thank you for keeping motivated, always making me feel loved and showing me that, contrary to popular belief, coworkers can indeed be your close friends. So much love for you!

XOXO,

Your coworker and friend
