Kayla Smith is a Virginia Commonwealth University freshman who was recently named the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Track and Field Team. I had the pleasure of meeting her over the summer and not only is she a fantastic athlete, but she is also a phenomenal student. Smith is and will become, a great inspiration to many.

What are some of your hobbies?
Love shopping, hanging out with friends and eating good food.
Why did you choose VCU?
The majors available primarily and track.
What is your favorite part of VCU?
The city life and atmosphere.
When did you start participating in Track and Field?
9th grade
What are some of your achievements in your athletic career?
Recently at the A-10 Championship, I set a personal best and won gold in the 400 which was absolutely crazy.
What was your response when you learned you were named the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team for track and field?
Extremely shocked, didn’t even believe it was me when they called my name.
Who has inspired you the most?
My parents. Wouldn’t be where I am now without them.

How do you balance both your academic career and your athletic career?
Time management. Making sure I’ve kept track of everything I need to do and by what time has helped me the most.
Where can you see yourself after college?
Maybe pursuing a fitness and modeling career or becoming a fashion buyer.
What is your end goal?
To be successful and an inspiration to many.
