Store/designer: I have a more relaxed boho style, so I don’t really stick to certain stores. I love thrifting for interesting pieces but I am also a big fan of ALTERED STATE.
Biggest role model: I don’t have just one person that I look up to. For me I see things in many people that I aspire to model myself after. I am always looking to surround myself with people that have a good attitude, character and strong work ethic. All things that I want for myself.
Why did you choose to join Greek life?
I had never thought about joining a sorority until someone suggested it and said they saw potential in me to be a leader. I went out for fall recruitment that year and although the process was a bit overwhelming at first it was an amazing experience. I found my home and the rest is history.
What is something that is unique about your sorority?
We are the only women’s fraternity to not use a crest because we were founded on Greek ideals rather than medieval ideals. In its place we use the image of a rose.
What is one of your favorite events your sorority puts on?
Just this past year we implemented a new philanthropy event called Run for Roses. This event is a 5k race that we sponsor in order to raise money for our national philanthropy the Arthritis Foundation.
Describe a time where your sisters were really there for you.
There is no particular time that I can put my finger on, my sisters have been there for some of my happiest and some of my hardest moments. They lift me up and constantly encourage me to reach for more. We grow together and that is a relationship that I cherish.
How do you respond to people who have a negative view on Greek life?
I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. For me it took someone that I respected and considered to be “breaking the stereotype” to open my eyes to the opportunity. Many of the most powerful people in the world were involved in Greek life in college and I honestly believe that it played a part a major part in their success.
How has your sorority changed your college experience?
AOII has brought me so much more than I ever expected. It has challenged me to grow outside of my comfort zone, made me a more compassionate person and above all called me to be a leader. I believe that all of the people I have meet in and through this organization have greatly impacted and complimented my college experience.
What are some things you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I love to explore new things and places. I really enjoy discovering new music, art, food and adventure.
What is your favorite spot in Richmond? If Kuba Kuba and Texas Beach had a baby…yea.
What is your dream job? My dream job would be to work on Nike branding. Being an advertising major I aspire to work on spots that will one day be shown during the World Cup and the Super Bowl.
