Finding someone to date is hard enough. Thanks to the Internet, it’s even harder. We’ve all seen Catfish: The TV Show.  I’d personally like to thank Nev for making us all scared to online date.

Most women are scared of meeting a serial killer, and men are scared to meet someone fat. Check out this video of the women who wore a fat suit on her Tinder date.

I asked VCU students to tell me about some of their online dating experiences. Here are what they said!

1. “I once went out with a guy who seemed complete normal, then he told me that he was a cult leader. It was super awkward.”

2. “He ended up having a tattoo of a confederate flag. And the best part, we made out for hours and then he left.”

3. “Quickly messages turned into snapchats, which led to videos and then skyping. We then started going on dates and three months later we are dating and crazy in love.”

4.  “At first he came off as a little creepy because he was so intent on meeting me and hanging out after talking one day. He showed up at my work after me finally letting him and now seven months later, we love each other.”

5.   “One really good experience though was actually through my sister, who matched with a guy, talked for awhile and went on a date. It was very awkward, she said, because although they had great online chemistry, both of them were introverts and had too many totally silent breaks. So she suggested a double date. So she brings me and he brought his friend to break the silence and surprisingly we ended up hitting it off! And went on several dates afterward.”

Make sure that if you do go out on a date with someone you met online, be safe. Meet somewhere public, bring a friend and make sure someone knows where you are and when you’re coming back.
