Name: Bryan Do

Year: Junior

Major: Biology

Birthday: October 31, 1992

I’ve heard Ramifications is a very difficult group to get accepted into.  Can you tell us about how your audition went?

There were 2 spots open that semester and about 50 people showed up.  I literally found out about the audition the day before and it stressed me out to no end.  It was an open audition so everyone auditioning sat in the same room together watching each person come in and having not only the entire a capella group watch me, but also everyone else auditioning made me that much more stressed out.  Finally, my audition was called and I auditioned with One Republic’s “Apologize.”  I chose that song because people connect with it and there are a lot of high and low notes to show off my vocal range.  I was one of the very few people who were asked questions about myself.  They asked, “What are you good at and what are you bad at?” I said I was bad at auditions.  And so they asked me, “If you’re so bad at auditions, when are you good at singing?” And I responded, “In the bathroom because I guess I’m more confortable singing naked by myself…Haha!” Afterwards, about an hour later I got a call.  My heart stopped but I heard, “Congrats Bryan, you’re in!”

What is your favorite song to sing in the shower?

Definitely something by Michael Buble.  I guess I would say my favorite song is Moondance.  I love jazz!

I imagine learning biology must require you to be in a very different state of mind than performing.  How do you balance schoolwork with Ramifications?

I don’t see acapella as work, I see it as an outlet.  Biology requires so much memorization and there’s not enough room to have fun. But I come to rehearsal surrounded by a whole group of people who love with music just as much as I do.  I can’t help but see it as a source of support and happiness.

What is your favorite part about being in RAMS?

I love being able to sing in a group that can not only work together in a room, but can also perform in front of an audience.  That feeling when I see everyone’s faces light up as we sing a song that they know is so fun and exciting!  That feeling is everything I go for.

So your birthday is on Halloween!  What has been your favorite costume you’ve worn from the past?

My favorite would definitely been my Robin costume from last year.  I’m a straight up nerd and Batman’s sidekick, Robin, is my favorite super hero. When I was a child, my dad never let me wear any exciting costumes and made me dress as a pharmacist instead. Almost every Halloween I remember always wearing his lab coat.  But wearing a mask, cape, gloves, and boots like Robin made me feel empowered and it was so much fun!

If you could date any Disney character, who would it be?

Well we’re all aware that I’m obviously a homosexual, but to be honest, if I were to date any Disney character it would be Ariel from The Little Mermaid.  I would turn straight for Ariel.  First off, she’s a ginger.  Second, I’m obsessed with marine life.  We could swim holding hands, flipping our fins, and be apart of each other’s world.  It would be beautiful.

What is the most interesting class you’re taking this year?

Hip Hop!  All my life, I’ve always loved dancing.  Finally getting the chance to learn real choreography in a class, following exact steps and getting credit for it is so different to me. I get to be physical, sweat, and dance with other people.  I love it.

You’re stuck on a desert island.  What 5 songs would you want to have with you?

Come Clean by Hillary Duff – Classic throwback to childhood!

I Am The Best By 2NE1 – No matter what mood I’m in, it makes me confident.

This Is Me by Demi Lovato – Empowering, beautiful, and I love Camp Rock!

Crazy In Love by Beyonce – I love the runs she does.  Beyonce is one of my idols.

Feeling Good by Frank Sinatra (covered by Michael Buble) – Classic and jazzy!

If you found out you only had 6 months to live, what would you do with your time?

If I were in a relationship with someone, I would marry them.  I would want to give the other person everything that I have and be able to support them when I’m gone.  I think that’s a beautiful thing.
