The weather is turning
cooler and the leaves are starting to change colors. You know what that means— fall is here! From Halloween to breaking out your cute fall clothes and accessories, the month of October comes with a lot of excitement. However did you know that it is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month? This month, we have the opportunity to join hands with women and men around the world to support a cause that we as collegiettes should be especially passionate about. If you or someone you who know has been diagnosed or affected by breast cancer, then you are more than likely aware of just how devastating it can be. Fortunately, there are many ways you and your friends can support women and men with breast cancer!

One of the easiest ways to support the cause is simple – wear pink! Make a statement for yourself and influence others by vowing to wear something pink as often as you can in October. This includes clothes, accessories, jewelry, shoes, make-up, stickers, ribbons, dying a strip of hair, painting your nails, or any other creative ideas you might come up with.

If you are feeling generous, another way to advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness  is to donate money for research. The need for research funding is increasing as the need for a cure becomes more prominent and anything you donate is greatly appreciated.

Another way to get involved is by joining the 5k marathon, Race for the Cure. Your entrance not only helps with funding, but it promotes a healthy lifestyle and supports breast cancer awareness. You can find a race near you by visiting the Susan G. Komen website. You can also become a supporter for the Komen foundation simply by just visiting the website.

However the best way to increase publicity for Breast Cancer Awareness month is simply by word of mouth. Tell your friends, family, fellow students, colleagues, managers, professors, and even tell the men. The more people that know, the more the cause will be supported which paves the way for better research which will hopefully lead to finding a cure.
