Back-to-School: VCU Street Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

You’ve had almost an entire month to unpack your wardrobe – there are no more excuses for not having tip-top back-to-school style! We can all take some style lessons from these cute, stylish and put-together collegiettes.

1. Matching! This girl’s outfit has coordinating colors which ties everything together so well.

2. Skinny jeans and a loose top help create a silhouette – one of the most important factors in putting together an outfit. It looks best to balance an outfit with a loose piece with something tight (and vice-versa!) so that your outfit has some visual contrast to it. This girl’s summer crop top paired with floral skinnies gets an A+.

3. The dress + vest combination is not only great for the walk to class and indoor temperatures, but it looks great too. Neutrals can always be complimented with a splash of color. This lady is also rocking some heavy bangles!

4. Shades – speaking literally and figuratively, this girl has got them both. Normally, I would rule two shades of blue as a fashion no-no, but I’ve been proved wrong. +10 points for creativity! Also take note of her sunglasses, chunky watch and stand out bag – accessories can make a basic outfit so much more notable.

5. Forget ties! We women have our own way of adorning our collars! Try wearing a necklace under your collar next time you wear a button-up. *Tip: For the hot back-to-school weather, wear a loose necklace and leave the top buttons of your shirt undone as shown above. In the winter, button your blouse all the way up and wear a tighter necklace.*

6. My favorite part about summer is wearing flowy dresses and sandals. The weather will be getting brisk soon, and although there are so many cute clothes to wear in fall, wear your summer dresses before it gets too late!
